"It turns out that iconic photo of Hillary Clinton wearing sunglasses while using a Blackberry..."

"... not only launched a thousand memes, but the entire investigation about her private email account."

Iconic? Seriously?

Oh it's iconic, how many times has a Clinton allowed themselves to be photographed committing a crime?

Do you think that Hillary ever wondered where much of the intelligence that she was shown as Secretary of State came from? Or did she just think that American hackers were good and none of our rivals had competent hackers? Blackberry's encryption was hacked by the israelies around that time, and they were forced to upgrade their protocol, (Don't make me go to ITU.org to find the relevant standard, it's been a while.)

Besides, if you have access to the carrier's equipment, as every government does as a condition of the carrier's license to operate in a particular country, carriers are often referred to as OLOs (Other Licensed Operators) you can get access to the channels over which the keys are passed. So at least part of her emails have to go over these channels that cannot be considered secure. How do you address an email to her particular Blackberry without exposing the address to the particular piece of network equipment that you are expecting to route that message. At the very least, it was possible to know within about 200 meters where Hillary was at all time, and to capture her traffic to be exposed to a massive amount of computing power in order to hack it. None of this would require access to her actual server, BTW, which is an entirely different can of worms.

Hillary's ignorance coupled with her arrogance will be the ultimate cause of her undoing.

I am a bit confused. I thought that discovering it had something to do with Gucifer getting busted.

I did find it humorous the other day when she was asked about the NDA she signed to work for the State Dept. (the NDA that essentially said that she promised to protect national intelligence and national security information regardless of whether it was marked classified or not). Her response was pure Hillary - she didn't remember any stinken NDA, bringing this up is sexist and mean to the first woman nominated for President. Ok, exaggerating a bit. But we really can't expect that she would admit actually remember the document that many of us haven seen with her signature, since that would undercut many of her excuses for her private server.

Bruce, two adds

Yes, you are correct on both counts.

1. IIRC, somebody did a FIOA, and the DoS FIOA guy (must have forgot his suspicions) responded, "No documents responsive to your request..., etc, etc". Then Judicial Watch or the Daily Caller went back with another FIOA, this one ended up on Lawyer Mills Desk, she told them "Ms Clinton has no State email, thus again: "No documents responsive to your request..., etc, etc". It was only after some paper published the hacked Blumenthal emails from Guccifer, that it was revealed the exact Clinton address and somebody got a judge convinced that State was lying, that the wall was breached...

2. All of us who have signed that NDA (SF-312) know clearly what it means. I signed my first one more than 46 years ago. My favorite sections would be:

4. I have been advised that any breach of this Agreement may result in the termination of any security clearances I hold; removal from
any position of special confidence and trust requiring such clearances; or termination of my employment or other relationships with the
Departments or Agencies that granted my security clearance or clearances. In addition, I have been advised that any unauthorized
disclosure of classified information by me may constitute a violation, or violations, of United States criminal laws, including the
provisions of sections 641, 793, 794, 798, *952 and 1924, title 18, United States Code; *the provisions of section 783(b}, title 50,
United States Code; and the provisions of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982. I recognize that nothing in this Agreement
constitutes a waiver by the United States of the right to prosecute me for any statutory violation.

7. I understand that all classified information to which I have access or may obtain access by signing this Agreement is now and will
remain the property of, or under the control of the United States Government
unless and until otherwise determined by an authorized
official or final ruling of a court of law. I agree that I shall return all classified materials which have, or may come into my possession or
for which I am responsible because of such access: (a) upon demand by an authorized representative of the United States
Government; (b) upon the conclusion of my employment or other relationship with the Department or Agency that last granted me a
security clearance or that provided me access to classified information; or (c) upon the conclusion of my employment or other
relationship that requires access to classified information. If I do not return such materials upon request, I understand that this may be
a violation of sections 793 and/or 1924, title 18, United States Code, a United States criminal law.

With regards to fact that Ms. Clinton never had, or at least never used, an official State Department email account:

She was appointed and confirmed to the post of Secretary of State, but in what sense did she actually do this job? Yeah, she flew around a lot and made speeches and that is part of the job, but isn't managing the State Department the meaty part of the work?

How do you run and manage a large organization when there is no means of electronic communication between the boss and the rest of the department?

I think the State Dept. kind of just ran itself during her tenure. Have we heard of any initiatives or reforms done there during her tenure?

Bruce, It just keeps getting better. Fox news reports that some of the redacted emails contain "Portion markings" The paragrpah codes that identify the level of classification in that para. If so, it puts paid to another Clinton alibi, "nothing I received was marked classified at the time I received it.

This portion was sent by Huma to Hill in 2012. Most of the email was redacted, but this was not:

"(C) Purpose of Call: to offer condolences on the passing of President Mukharika and congratulate President Banda on her recent swearing in."

Funny, because I always thought the picture was posed. Who in the hell wears their sunglasses indoors??

Furthermore, I can't wear sunglasses, and read my iPhone. I need all the light I can get.

You ARE talking about the most qualified person ever to run for President, aren't you?

I suggest that the Tromp campaign print up a million posters with this picture.

That was shortly after her concussion. I had to wear sunglasses because light gave me terrible headaches. I couldn't read though. The words weren't clear enough and scrambled in my brain. She probably has some neurological damage still, maybe her excuse for not remembering she was using an unsecured server, or that she was SOS.

"That was shortly after her concussion"

Has anyone ever seen her medical records ? That was a suspicious episode. I would think she has more need to disclose than most candidates.

Bruce Hayden said...

She won't release her medical records. Obama didn't release any of his transcripts, so why should she? The VRC (vast right wing conspiracy) would just use them against her. Heck, we only got half of her State Dept emails because a judge ordered them to provide such. Probably never see the other half (even if the FBI has).

Bruce Hayden said...

Retreating a little bit - we might see them if Trump can make enough of a big deal about her health. Maybe along those lines, that she is obviously unhealthy, just look at her color. Mention the concussion, and maybe she is self medicating with all the booze. Or, maybe she is just a drunk. Everyone knows she is an alcoholic, got blasted at the wedding. Etc. (which is interesting in itself - it has been awhile since we had a seriously drinking President, just the opposite of the case at our founding). Wouldn't be surprised if her health did come up over the next five months, and likely on a recurring basis. Nothing seems sacred from The Donald.

Everybody in the State Department and White House knew she was breaking the law (yes, that's you too, Barky). They should all be held accountable. Unfortunately, since only Democrats are involved, no one will be.

Let's just say that, unlike Helen's, Hillary's face will never launch a thousand ships. OTOH, it may encourage a thousand campaign donations--preferably in large round numbers. Bearer bonds are kind of nice--no record of who made the donation, but trust me, she won't forget. And if you don't make a donation, well that's a nice little business you have there. it would be a shame if something happened to it. Dona Vita Clintonai (nee Hillary Clinto) remembers her friends--and punishes her enemies

Remember Hillary's General Betray Us statements? Trumpy ought to use those against her.

And just today they find out one of the emails SHE SENT was marked 'Confidential', lowest grade of secret and fully prosecutable.

It's entirely possible she thought exactly that. She's been waited on hand and foot for the last 20 years. Her understanding of reality probably bears little resemblance to ours.

tim in vermont said...

More likely she was just clueless.

Paul said...

Well she surly does NOT need to be president, right?

1) People suffering crippling migraines.
