21 in NJ. Coldest morning of the winter by far. Did not seem that bad actually.

-1.7 is grounds to move south.

I'm doing that this year in any event. I'll have a whole new area of Althouse's
"local travel" open to me. Which I will take advantage of, as I always do.

Sebastian, I moved your comment to the correct post, below.

We could have traveled and been somewhere else during the one badly cold week.

Today, however, it's going up to 21°. I'm eager to get out of the finally reliably frozen ice.

You guys seem to be hogging all of the cold weather, In three weeks comes the ice fishing derby and the lake is only frozen in the shallow bays. I have never seen that before this time of year, not that I have been here my whole life. In my experience there is a foot of ice or more by now.

-1.7 without wind is fine weather for the outdoors. Plus it keeps away the undesirables.

I read my comment and I think that it could be read as racist by somebody who wants to see it that way. I meant by "undesirables" the weather wimps.

America was built on cheap energy.

Obama is killing cheap energy. Arch Coal filled for BK this week.

We just got back from Iceland and I have a new appreciation for the Celsius scale. Being an island in the non-freezing North Atlantic, the temperature was always a few degrees of zero.

Minus 1.7 Fahrenheit is minus 18.7 Celsius, as far below freezing as 18.7 Celsius (65.7 Fahrenheit)is above.

In the UK, Thatcher is still despised by the left for shutting down the coal mines and Obama is worshiped. Go figure. It's almost as if their issues were just pretexts to gain personal power.

The two outdoor thermometers say 11 and 5, influenced by ground temperatures. The wb says 3.

It's not sub-zero because there's no freezing of nose hairs in the morning dog outing.

Much warmer talks about oncoming southern air, not what it dropped to overnight.

The heating bills are up three times over, thanks to closing AEPs coal plants, for the same energy use.

Then you better believe it is, unless you're a Science Denier.

That cold air looks like Pagan Brutalism straight out of North Norway. No wonder Wisconsin birds fly south for the winters.
