"The great thing about Bill Clinton is his hands are completely in touch with the average American."

Said Chris Matthews, on "Meet the Press" this morning, unintentionally conjuring up an image that made us laugh.

He continued:
He's got his hands on the American experience in a way that Obama's probably lost for a while, that connection. He knows people are really bugged by this promise that wasn't kept. He knows it.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you can't lose what you never had. When did Obama ever have a connection with the "American experience?"

As for Clinton, oh never mind ....

Clinton knifed Obama in the back. The best way for Hillary to win the White House in 2016 is for the GOP to overreach. For the GOP to overreach, they need to control Congress. The best way for the GOP to control Congress?! Obama has to tank - big time! Obama set up the entire disaster and Bill just saw the right time for the knife. Obama never should have played the race card on Bill.

Clinton's been divorced from the "American experience" for quite some time. And can he please stop touching Americans? He should have to register as a sexual offender.

Unintentional? What pops out when Matthews is aroused and looking to express lust shows us what he hides when he's doing his mundane PR

Oh, man. That quote is dyac-worthy.

And old Bill had his hand up Monica's dress to.

He was a scamp, a camp, and a bit of a tramp, he was a V. A. M. P... vamp!

I do NOT understand that. Please clarify.

Are you saying that, for Repub. success, the R.'s need to go easy on B. Hussein O.?

It sounds like "concern trolling" for Republicans.

Bill Clinton knifed Barack Obama because BC has a clue, and he's desperately trying to save the Democratic Party from getting annihilated at the polls if the Obamacare screw-up doesn't get cleanly & quickly resolved.

While Matthews turn of phrase was "spew Coca-Cola on the keyboard" worthy, Mathews is essentially correct: Bill Clinton is the best all around politician the Democrats have.

Bill is just jealous. When he got caught lying, he had to stop "dating". All Obama has to do is issue an executive order.

@Hagar,

I don't disagree, but it's the fact that he's such a smooth operator that allows him to get away with being rotten to the core.

It's amazing that Bill & Hillary Clinton came out of his second term well-nigh bankrupt, and now control millions, and yet no one in the press asks how it all happened. W., on the other hand, sits in his living room painting and yet is responsible for laying the foundation every fuck-up of the Obama administration. Go figure!

They didn't have to ask, it's pretty much public record. Bill was/is shameless in where he'll show up, as long as he's paid. Even a few golfing buddies paid Clinton his fee to pull of the if life were only like this prank on one of their own.

Clinton knows people are upset about the "you can keep your insurance" broken promise? Wow, he really does have his finger on the pulse of the nation!

That anyone can keep a straight face when "tingles" says anything about politics is amazing.

The man is a joke. The only bigger joke is that's he on TV.

HillaryCare or ObamaCare? What difference does it make?

Bill and Bill.. this is why he is popular -- you may not like the person but he is an intellectual giant and a pleasure to listen to and he delivered for you and everyone during his presidency (you bozos still had to go after his sex lies -- and of course, now you all are such wimps to go after Obama).

Obama will be golfing for the rest of his life..

Clinton can take advice and is still in touch with reality. He was an automatic lefty in 1992 but he was convinced that he couldn't do everything he wanted to by people like Bob Rubin.

When the Congress flipped in 1994, he was able to recognize why and work with Gingrich on some things like welfare reform (after he had vetoed it twice).

I doubt Clinton has much in the way of core beliefs except his reflex leftism. He left that behind when it became a threat. Hillary and Obama are far more doctrinaire leftists and immune to reason. She would be a worse president than he is, if that is possible.

What a white fucking show!

White white white!

If I weren't Irish/German, I would hate white people based on this show.

Mathews looked like he was in pain when the token Repubs were allowed to speak.

Tom Brokaw needs to retire.

The public doesn't need him.

It is disturbing watching him speak, although I admit he was coherent.

Bill told Obama to keep his promise to hide the fact that he advised our legislators to vote for a bill regardless of what harm it may cause. That kind of behavior puts you in jail in the private world.

My point in stating that was not to concern troll. My point was that the Clintons' plan for electing Hillary will involve vilifying the GOP in the Congress. That's really hard to do if the GOP doesn't control Congress. As examples of this, look at the way the media treated the Republican lead government shutdown. Further, look at the way any legislation on abortion or any woman's or other social issue backfires on Republicans. God help the GOP if they take on a serious issue like entitlements.

I suppose that you may have gotten the impression that I support the Clinton's position on GOP overreach. I don't -- except that the potential of this strategy may prevent the GOP from moving on some social issues.

But that's not really the thrust of my argument. My argument is that Bill recognized that Obama is very weak at the moment. He also recognized that allowing people to keep their plans is a poison pill for Obamacare. It makes it even more unworkable. And he still encouraged the president to keep his promises -- dooming Obama to a massive policy failure. Obama took the bait. By this time next year, we should be looking at massive losses by the Democrats in the House and hopefully the GOP will control the Senate. I want that as do most of the Althouse readers. Well, guess what, so do the Clintons.

If he knows it, does his wife know it? because she made the same exact promise.

Though, Hillary was touting her own plan at the time ad went on to lose the presidency. So I guess she should get a pass since we couldn't prove that people couldn't keep their plans since her law never went into effect.

Obamas fundamental issue is he never moved to the center. Too bound by his lefty ideology.
