Many years ago, when "Earth Day" was just becoming faddish in the media, an old friend of mine cogently observed, "Earth Day: just a good excuse to take a piss outside."

My first son was born on Earth Day. When he was little he thought it was a big deal but now, at 28, he just rolls his eyes at the mention of it. Much like the rest of the world.

Earth Day. The very first one I remember, the morons near my university cut high tension transmission line to the local natural burning plant, forcing the city to use the nuclear power plant. That's about the time I complete my journey from neutral to conservative.

It can be great to have your birthday on a minor holiday: It's easy for people to remember and they actually will think of you. Being born on Christmas or New Year's isn't good, because real celebrations will way overshadow you. But Earth Day is a good landing spot. My older son was born on St. Patrick's Day. I think that worked out nicely.

I remember when I was in law school and pregnant with a due date of March 16th and I said that if it was March 17th, I'd have to name him Patrick, and a fellow student informed me grimly that I did not have to do that. There were some terribly humorless people in law school.

That looks like a lovely neighborhood, Professor.

Sometime in the early to mid 70s, I found that my birthday coincided with Martin Luther King Day in Ohio. I was most pleased to have a birthday off from school!

I bet he doesn't roll his eyes at it when it's mentioned, that's for sure - lol.

Shouldn't you be Not-So_Old RPM Daddy, then? School in the 70s? Pshaw!

My older daughter was born on Feb 12. We're still in the delivery room when a nurse says "Oh, they'll have to change from Lincoln's Birthday to [kid name] Birthday now." I immediately replied "That'll depend on how she does as president."

True story, not embellished. I swear.

Green is Red and it's just another taxpayer-supported indoctrination session. Tell them you gave at the tire burning plant.

This is like an open thread, right?

I just wanted to say that I've been noticing the recent trend among young, physically fit women to wear tight neon-colored jeans paired with a tight knit top.

And I'd like to say thank you, thank you, thank you.

They don't seem to wear heels though, which is a good thing.

I don't think I could take the strain.
