Is that a body floating in the lake?

ricpic said...

That sky is preggers? Did its water break later in the day?

ndspinelli said...

Yes Blake, It's Otis Redding. However, that's the other Madison Lake..lake Monona.

ricpic said...

Oops, period not questionmark after preggers.

I feel a poem coming on
When the sky goes all dark,
But, so far, I've had the sense to run inside
Before I become a human spark.

Ann, would you take a look at Drudge's main picture? Obama vs. Cain. Cain has an impressive resume. I wonder what exactly did Obama do to get where he is today. Is it that he is the author of two books that he didn't write.

Christy said...

Lovely shot, Althouse.

I'm gloomy. Did anyone else notice that last night's ABC news used Senator Barbara Boxer as the government expert to talk about those maybe 20,000 surface-to-air missiles gone missing in Libya? Did they use a woman to soften the news and make it sound less scary? Did they use her because she is an expert? Did they just need a woman's face? Am I sexist in wanting to hear from someone, a man perhaps, from one of the armed forces committees. How about Jim Webb, even? Doesn't have to be a Republican.

So I'm buying me a Kindle Fire, and some other stuff. I clicked through the link on Althouse, but how do I know it worked? I haven't checked out yet.

That is a lovely photo, though I believe Otis Redding has looked better.

Grand, brooding shot.

Makes you want to paddle a canoe loaded with furs to Montreal.

Or crawl under the covers and keep some body warm.

Or both.

But I'm on your side.

I hope it's not Otis Redding.

Christy, I had the same reaction last night about Boxer. I also found her barely recognizable.

Most noticeable to me: she has a new hairstyle. She did take Fiorina's comments to heart.

Their not.. at least for me since I found a steady job.. odd hours, but its a job.. (insert "its better than nothing" like comment here ;)
Put me on the underemployed category.

My mother sounded happier for the both of us.

ndspinelli said...

Barbara Boxer is shrinking..and she peaked @ 4'8". When her political career ends she's got a remake of Fantasy Island in the works.

Feeling a bit down?

Good advice!

When retiring to the bedroom prepare yourself for bed as promptly as possible. Whilst feminine hygiene is of the utmost importance your tired husband does not want to queue for the bathroom as he would have to do for his train. But, remember to look your best when going to bed Try to achieve a look that is welcoming without being obvious. If you need to apply face cream or hair rollers wait until he is asleep as this can be shocking to a man last thing at night When it comes to the possibility of intimate relations with your husband it is important to remember your marriage vows and in particular your commitment to obey him. If he feels that he needs to sleep immediately then so be it. In all things be led by your husband’s wishes do not pressure him in any way to stimulate intimacy. Should your husband suggest congress then agree humbly all the while being mindful that a man’s satisfaction is more important than a woman’s.

When he reaches the moment of fulfilment a small moan from yourself is encouraging to him and quite sufficient to indicate any enjoyment that you may have had.

Should your husband suggest any of the more unusual practices, be obedient and uncomplaining but register any reluctance by remaining silent. It is likely that your husband will then fall promptly asleep so, adjust your clothing, freshen up and apply your night-time face and hair care products.

You may then set the alarm so that you can arise shortly before him in the morning. This will enable you to have his morning cup of tea ready when he awakes.

Lem - congrats on the job. Don't know if it is "manly" job or not.(see prior post on AA) but I hope it leads to other, more fulfilling work in the future.

Hardly.

Let's put aside the horrible use of 'back-radiated' heat in the linked-to article. (Honestly, radiation is either absorbed, emitted, transmitted or reflected...it is NOT 'back-radiated'). They article seems to complain that measurements are taken in regions that are transparent to water vapor or to carbon dioxide. So yes, you're not measuring energy emitted by water vapor (well, except in the ~6.7 micron channel on, say, GOES-East) because you don't really know what level in the atmosphere that energy is coming from. If you measure emitted radiation in the atmospheric window (around 11 microns) or in the 'dirty' window around 3.9 microns, you get a much better measurement of surface temperature.

It looks to me like you are receiving the weather that I had yesterday. Today? Nice. However, it warmed up enough for the asian beattle and the box elder bug to day nutzoid.

Lem it's great that you got a job.

But don't tell them you are a Red Sox fan.

That tags you as a loser. Just sayn'

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Watch how Giradly empty his bench tonight. He has every right to do that and if I were him and I could help not facing the Sox in the playoffs.. sure.

But, you must admit Trooper, it just stinks the way the Yanks seem to be laying down.

Where is the Yankee pride?

Christy said...

Bag O', used to be that you had to check out within a half-hour or some such when using the links for it to count.

Irene, I missed the hair style change (I change my own regularly, so I always expect others to likewise.) but thought it was the plastic surgery that made her look so fresh.

ndspinelli, I had no idea Boxer was so tiny. In an odd way, it gains her respect in my eyes. Or does it diminish the Senate? I'll think about that for a while.

Irene said...

"but thought it was the plastic surgery that made her look so fresh."

LOL. When she first appeared on the TV, I said, "Did Nancy Pelosi dye her hair??"

deborah, thanks for this clip. It is a good clip. I forgot that "Trampas" from The Virginian was also in Shenandoah.

In a few years, people will be looking at that clip the way some people look at Cheech and Chong in Up In Smoke.

Jimmy Stewart, dirty tobaccoanist.

lilLem we are coasting into the playoffs and giving our guys a rest.

Don't blame us if the Red Sox blew so many games during the season that the Devil Rays can get back in to the hunt.

We are just setting up our rotation and lineup and giving some of our guys a rest and some of the rookies a taste of the big time.

Fred4Pres said...

Boston better not screw up. Trooper will be insufferable for at least a week or so until the Yankees are eliminated. Then he will say, well we lasted longer than Boston.

Fred4Pres said...

I loved Up In Smoke. It should be all over TV like other classics like Caddyshack. Hell, even in Caddyshack they often cut the "cannonball" scene.

We can handle seeing people smoke a joint. We can handle seeing someone smoke a cigar or cigarette.

Fred4Pres said...

What Trooper is telling you is the Yankees are tired.

Amartel said...

Foreboding! I likes it.

Boxer is the sad little creature who made a big deal about being called "Ma'am" by a testifying general. She said she felt she'd earned the right to be called "Senator." Dumb as a stump. Must mean she's on Foreign Relations Committee. So not that surprising that they wheeled her out to report on missing missiles.
Ma'am Ma'am -ing the Flak Catchers?

I mentioned before that in my browser there is no Amazon box in the side bar, so I used the link in the masthead and ordered my Kindle Fire and some dog treats because they just go together. Anyway, I did that on my work computer, but noticed that at home my computer with the same browser (Firefox) did have the Amazon box in the side bar. Strange.

MadMan, I'm putting up the new building and they were absolutely terrible. Especially when you are sweating, and they have that tendency to bite. I have a sprayer that I used to deal with the miserable creatures, but it was in the basement and I didn't have time to spray. I had a can of flying bug spray in the shop, so I used that on my door before I went into the house. On the door alone, there were probably 50 of them. The air is full of them.
