"I think it’s natural for someone like Robert [Gibbs] to want to step back for a second to reflect, retool..."

Said President Obama, about the departure of his press secretary.

This will give him time to get his stories straight.

The "affable" Robert Gibbs, the story calls him.

Like an affable pit viper.

WV Jackpot = "ablogr""

Not going to miss him (not that he's responsible for the awful policies of the Administration).

I'd have respect for him if he resigned because "I can't stand lying to cover for Obama anymore."

Maybe Nancy Pelosi need a press secretary. Gibbs would be a natural.

The operative word being "tool."

Now he can go back to being fake Bill Gates in those Apple commercials.

He's already a tool! How can he retool?

wv: sewrat. The only kind of rat that doesn't try to desert a sinking ship.

These fools can't even get the "wants to spend more time with his family" shit right.

Losers.

I'm surprised he has lasted this long. His arrogant demeanor and his batrachian visage always disturbed me.

I always said messaging was the problem. Not really stupid policies and ignoring campaign promises.

Obama's press secretary has to be the hardest job in the nation.

He was pretty lousy IMO but I wouldn't rejoice if I found out he was dying of cancer though.

Well, that was a quick tour. Usually it's four years and out, but rats, meet sinking ship, etc.

The guy made Baghdad Bob look like Richard Harding Davis.

Become an even bigger one?

Drew said...

I predicted he'd be gone by March, 2009. I think he hung on for two years just to spite me.

to reflect, retool...

And to finish the alliteration:

to reflect, retool and RUNAWAY!!!

for a historical example see here

(if you like, you can imagine the Republican opposition as the Frenchmen in the castle and BO as King Arthur on his sacred quest)

I agree with the President on this. Its perfectly natural to head for the lifeboat when you see the Captain refusing to steer the ship away from an iceberg.

Hey no lifeboat jokes.

I had enough of those on the cruise.

I like how Rush called him Fibbs. Press Secretary is a tough position, defending the indefensible.

James said...

Hmmm...a few weeks ago the "insider" stories were all about Gibbs being moved to either Chief of Staff or Senior Adviser to the President (Alexrod's post). Now he being pushed out? What happened?

holdfast said...

I don't see how re-tooling is necessary - he's always been a complete tool. And not a power tool either.

Some people only have so many lies in them.

He projected a poor image of the Obama administration. They need someone eaier on the eyes, frankly, not a Michael Moore look-alike.

"The operative word being "tool."

Yes. Bring on the next 'tool' of the left.

I assume he's going to get a show on ABC also?

News report says he is going to be working on Obama's re-election.

Immediately before the quote highlighted by Ann, there was another statement by Obama that may explain Gibbs' move a bit more directly: "He’s had a six-year stretch now where basically he’s been going 24/7 with relatively modest pay."

Cashing in is what it would be called, but only in Republican administrations. It's strange that Obama would make a point of noting it, however, since it hardly fits with the image he wants to project. Perhaps that's what happens when the teleprompter stays on vacation.

One of the comments Obama made about him was:
“He’s had a six-year stretch now where basically he’s been going 24/7 with relatively modest pay."

Interesting that $172,000 9Gibbs current salary) is considered relatively modest when $200,000 for a single tax filer puts one into the category of "tax cuts for the rich."

@Michael

try and get a grip on the pay thing ok.

Ha!!! Retool? From already being a tool?
