"You have to have a lot of balls to talk to a woman wearing my clothes."

Said the fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who has committed suicide, which may or may not take a lot of balls.

I once read a piece written by someone who had been in some sort of trauma and very nearly died. He wrote of how easy and seductive, even sensual, it was just to give up and slip on over to the other side. He wrote of how he had to mentally and, within his power, physically fight to live.

Living takes courage. McQueen sounds as if he was deficient.

Yep. Can't remember where I heard it but dying is easy, it's living that's a bitch.

Sounds like this guy has some serious mommy issues.

Instead, Mr. McQueen represented the kind of volatile imagination that transforms clothes into a cultural tapestry, intensely personal therapy and political provocation.

That shure is some purty high falutin writin.

From the quote, I can't tell who is wearing the clothes: the woman, or the person talking to the woman.

Kinda changes what I might think of McQueen's designs.

Or you've got to know a trick,...

Hoosier,

Man, that resonates with me so much, I applaud you.

Well Crack, take the path that keeps showing us who you are:

A cranky outspoken jarring reminder that life is messy who we need to knock us on the side of the head from time to time.

A focal point in the linked article is the psychological meaning, which had never occurred to me, of the dance contests of the thirties where two people would probably ultimately have to cling to each other to be the last couple dancing, exhausted and desperate, surviving to win something they could very much use. A sign of those times and one ideal I guess. You may find that in Bonnie and Clyde too

I clicked through some of those pics from the link and I just have to ask:

Who the hell wears that stuff? I mean wtf was the blue bikni and matching face mask all about? And this guy won awards for this?

I really think there is a parallel universe that exists right here among us.

Words alone can not express how I am feeling now.

The only consolidation I have is my husband bought me a macbook last night and will be taking me to The Canyon Ranch in The Berkshires this weekend which should help but cannot masque the pain.

The room at the Canyon Ranch is $795.00 per night which will help.

Thank you.

The Rare Clumbers will be attended to as well at The Canyon Ranch receiving full body treatments which I believe will help in their recovery.

Again, thank you so much for caring.

These methods require balls.

And we can't forget the Pinata

Americans are nothing, if not courageous. We've been giving it all up for what's behind door number three since 1956.

I just heard about McQueens suicide. Awful. Just awful. Someone said he had mommy issues? Well, yes, he loved his mother dearly, she nurtured him and protected him. She was his cocoon of safety and without her, he felt unsafe and unsure. It drove him to this end. Pity.

I remember my dad once saying in a drunken slurring stupor when I was about 8 or 9, "Son, life is hard, then you die." then he passed out. I really thought he died. Then he threw up. Ah, the memories.

From the article: "It had been a long time since he'd been considered an enfant terrible."

I believe the term "enfant terrible" means "really annoying gay man." I can't think of anyone else it's ever applied to.

Penny said...

You're kidding, Paul. Right? Cause my new found musician friend...You are showing a bit of the "enfant terrible" yourself right now. ;)

Methadras,

While I'm probably closer to Hoosier Daddy in temperament - a right-wing vet and all that - I've also got that "passionate artist" thing going, and also don't understand how people don't get that sometimes. When I think of what I've been through, and see people writing that I should calm down - after my mother-in-law was killed, my ex-wife was exploited (by this bastard) who, with my wife's help, went on to kill two others, with no one believing me for years - heckling me even about being passionate about it - it warps my mind. I, too, have a hard time grasping people, sometimes, because of it. I mean, the exploitation of my wife, the destruction of my (pretty nice) life, and murder? Who's cavalier about that? I don't think I'll ever understand it.
