I wanted to ask folks who like Althouse for blog recommendations. I travel among Althouse, Commentary, and Instapundit mainly. What else do people here like?

Yes, but does anyone have any recommendations that aren't "NeoCon" tools?

Not to toot my own horn or anything, while I don't run a "blog", what I do is things like this (scroll down to the second update for the two-paragraph version). You won't find anyone else encouraging people to go out and put politicians on the spot and that's pretty sad. (Waving loopy signs and throwing tantrums isn't putting politicians on the spot and it isn't going to undercut the MSM.)

Most of the blogs (speaking generally) are simply people who have little or no specialist knowledge opining on what's on Memeorandum or what's in the latest talking points from AFP. I tend to do things a bit differently.

Nah, Protein Wisdom or Ace.

Belmont Club is always good.

Here's blogging in a nutshell: this Instapundit post. In the second grade that might be expected and effective.

Now, compare that to what I say about the person being mocked. If you don't understand how my way is better, then you've been reading too many blogs.

Something similar happened recently with the Hoffman issue: the tea partiers and most r/w blogs were supporting someone whose policies would end up raising their taxes and reducing their political power, and I was the only person pointing that out.

If you want to guage how far we are on the Road to Idiocracy, Instapundit, HotAir, and most of the other major blogs are great places to start.

Oh, screw it. Why bother?

I dislike Ace of Spades which probably makes a commiedemocrat or somthing.

And, I'm finding myself reluctant to mention my three favorite blogs because I don't want them overrun with traffic (which is not the reason they blog)

I'll have to think about it whether I want to publicize them here or not. (Though one of them is findable on Althouse's blogroll.)

Other's on the blogroll are Tigerhawk, Winds of Change,

The citizens of Idiocracy seem happy. Ignorance is bliss.

I love that movie.

Camacho 2012!

There's also Gateway Pundit, Hot Air, Jammie Wearing Fool, Don Surber, the Other McCain, The Anchoress (some of her material relates to her devout Catholicism (Althouse with a rosary, if you will)), Jules Crittenden (very good for a guy from Boston), and, of course, Rush.

You can also go with Chicago Boys, Pajamas Media (a collection), Nealz Nuze (from talk show host Neal Boortz - a real libertarian belchfire)and NRO (trolls fulminate in 5, 4, 3...).

Except for Lone and the paid stooges from Kos, all are pretty well-regarded.

Iris appears to be recoiling from the cold.

I fully empathize.

I enjoy the insightful analysis and reflections of neo-neocon. She freely admits she's not necessarily pithy but she's always a good read and makes me think.
Love the sight of a late fall blooming iris...what a treat!

Just to add another question, I'm always seeking out recommendations for really well-written and reasonable left-leaning blogs, too, since I prefer not to live in an echo chamber. I don't mean to sound snarky, but I have a hard time finding ones that don't turn me off for stylistic/aesthetic/type of humor used reasons.

Lately I've been enjoying Ta-Nehisi Coates's blog at the Atlantic, and also John Scalzi's blog "whatever."

Any recommendations on that end?

To me, this reads like the definitive list of the old boys club in new media. Another insular group of people, listening to each other, as impenetrable to outside input as the borg.

O.K., that last line was unfair: The borg were capable of eventually coming around.

I read all these guys (and gals) and, while I find something to enjoy in and about all of them, they mostly depress me with their limited outlook, reminding me too much that they're still typical products of the politics of Jr. High.

Shanna said...

I mostly stick with Instapundit and whatever he links to but sometimes i pop over to Ace of Spades, although they are way over the top. I don't feel like I need a liberal blog, when I have the NYtimes and WashPost.

Shanna said...

Oh, I do like Kausfiles though.

Some of my favorite blogs don't get updated daily, so they're more like columns.

These include Carl Bialik's The Numbers Guy (WSJ) (plus, for the sports-minded, his The Daily Fix) and Christopher Niemann's Abstract City (NYT). John Tierney's TierneyLab is another New York Times blog that gets beyond the utterly predictable.

Besides Instapundit, the only really political blog I read with any regularity is Baseball Crank -- which is half baseball.

It's a treat to spend time at den Beste. A grave illness has ended his active blogging, though he writes the occasional comment or small essay. The collection of his best is here

http://denbeste.nu/bestof.shtml

In his time he was certainly one of the greats; I think he still is. The remark of the nugatory Edroso comparing Althouse to den Beste was a compliment indeed, however brainlessly intended.

Anyone hear Pelosi's comment yesterday (I think) about giving a Christmas present to the American people in the form of Obamacare?

Only a couple of things wrong with that:

1) It'll never happen by Christmas...if ever in the form it is in currently.

2) Christmas presents are free. Obamacare is exactly the opposite of free.

3) She mentioned a Christmas present, not a "holiday" present. Not only will she have to turn in her liberal white guilt card, but she's devastatingly offended all those who pray to the alter of church and state separation in all things. You can't have a Christmas tree or creche, but you can put the full weight of the federal government behind legislation a great deal of people are against and call it Christmas?

So...religion is bad unless it serves your needs, Nancy? Like most libs, religion is only to be used when convenient.

Speaking of Michelle, it was nice of the President to come out this morning and say a few concerned words about the economy. And to assure us that his latest junket, this one to the Great Wall of China - is not just another, you know, junket.

For poli-sci/economic thoughts, there's always Michael Barone.

And I kept hearing Boris Karloff singing, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch", right after. Take away the Botox and Pelosi could...

PS I just realized what that flower reminds me of. And purple, too...

Fred4Pres said...

That flower is saying, OH SHIT it is November!

Fred4Pres said...

Hey Dodd is 11 points behind in Connecticut

I feel like a song about fading flowers...

O Doddy Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone and all the roses falling;
It's you, it's you must go and my smile is wide.

But not come back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow.
Yes, I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow;
Oh Doddy Boy, oh Doddy Boy, I despise you so!

But when ye go, and all the Dems are crying,
Your career is dead, as dead as it should be.
I will come and find the place where you are lying,
And kick your corpse and say an Ave there for me.

And I you hear, as I dance above thee;
And oh you grave will colder and wetter be,
For your passing will show that God does love me;
And I shall sleep in peace because you nolonger be!

Irony is Crack Emcee saying they mostly depress me with their limited outlook.
