Ooh, I'm going to lie down here!

Southern Man?

Hmmm. I would guess, "A Man Needs a Maid."

But I'm just a troublemaker.

For my first Althouse comment ever, I think it's... Cinnamon Girl

The only Neil Young songs that pop into my head (because they are my two favorites) are woefully inappropriate.

The Needle and the Damage Done

Hurricane

Although, if you found the needle in the hackstack in a most unpleasant way, the first could work.

Sugar Mountain?

That is a striking photograph by Meade. You look great laying down, I am not sure why.

J. Cricket said...

You asked. Three titles come to mind:

A Man Needs a Maid

Old Laughing Lady

Stupid Girl

"But I'm just a dusty soul
with nothing much to say
Down here in the hay,
bound to stay that way"

Gateway of Love??

"You look great laying down, I am not sure why."

Gravity = face lift.

Anyone else thinking of Teri Garr in Young Frankenstein here?

Fred4Pres said...

Ann, I actually did know that. That is true for a lot of us--we benefit from having gravity pull in a different direction every now and again. But I was being gracious in not saying it.

Who is Neil Young? The song that comes to my perverted mind is: "Roll me over in the clover!"

Alex said...

Althouse is exhausted from the Polanksi thread.

rhhardin said...

If it were Bach, it would be BWV199, Ich lege mich in diese Wunden.

In the "Field of Opportunity" it's plowing time again.

Yeah, she could drag me over the rainbow, send me away
Down by the river I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead.

Heart of Gold,

Mother Earth, or

Down, Down, Down.

How come I always feel saner and happier after stopping in here?

Cow Girl in The Sand?

Of course, no one should act out Neil Young songs, except Neil Young.

Ann Althouse said...

It's not hay, it's pine needles, a very thick, clean, comfy layer of pine needles — at Olbrich Garden.

That's a big hint, and I'll add that the answer has already been guessed.

EC-

The Needle and the Damage Done

Meade said...

I should have said what Neil said back before he went all truther on us:

"Let's Roll"

Irene said...

Meanwhile, someone's needling you again in the next thread.

rhhardin said...

She leaned her back against a thorn
(Fine flowers in the valley)
And there she has her young child born
(And the green leaves they grow rarely)
.

A ballad refrain that Wm. Empson gives as an example of mutual metaphor.

``The effect of the contrast is not simple; perhaps it says "Life went on, and in a way this seems a cruel indifference to her suffering, but it lets us put the tragedy in its place, as we do when we sing about it for pleasure." And you might say that the birth of the child and the growth of the plants are treated as both natural, so that in a remote way they are compared. But the flowers in the valley and the girl on the hill are both meant to be really there; she will illuminate them as soon as they her.''

Oh, oh, oh. I know. It wasn't Neil Young at all, it was that macho sex god Pete Burns with Dead of Alive.

Also works for the next big joke too.

Dr. Frankenstein: What knockers!

Inga: Oh, thank you Doctor!

Tell me where did you sleep last night.

Not NY but it works.

Why doesn't anyone like me? Why won't women go out with me? Why has my penis shriveled up into a tiny dried worm and fallen off?

Ann Althouse said...

Thanks for the spin, Chip.

The answer, in case it's not already obvious, is: The Needle and the Damage Done.

I was going to guess "Helpless," but now what's the point?

I need to come here just to read rhhardin's comments.

I never knew what true courage is until you posted that picture and invited comments.

I'm not much of a Neil Young fan, but for some reason "Second Hand News" by Fleetwood Mac came to mind.

Unknown Legend

Somewhere on a desert highway
She rides a Harley Davidson
Her long blonde hair
flyin' in the wind.
She's been runnin' half her life.
The chrome and steel she rides
Collidin' with the very air she breathes
The air she breathes.

"Ma'am Lies Down on Broad Hay"?
No, that's old Genesis.

Actually, this pose of Althouse reminds me of the XTC video for the song Grass if Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club had participated.
