"Subsequent to a sex scandal in a Minneapolis airport water closet for men...."

I love getting my American news filtered through India!
AS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY recovers from the Craig scandal, which forced the Idaho Senator Craig to resign (subsequent to a sex scandal in a Minneapolis airport water closet for men), a US tabloid has published more news which could damage the Republican Party even after Bush leaves office.

A US tabloid called “Globe” has published the news that First Lady Laura Bush is writing her divorce diaries about life in Washington. It has been reported that Laura Bush is unhappy with George Bush returning to drinking and spending more time with Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.

According to the Globe, Laura Bush did not accompany her husband even to the APEC Summit in Australia because of her marital discord with George Bush. George Bush loves secrecy and has even asked members of his government not to write about their times in the Bush administration.

It appears that Bush is afraid that his reputation will be further damaged if there are further revelations of what happened inside the White House. The Republican Party has indeed suffered heavily in its so called “Annus Horribilis ” with Karl Rove imitating a rapper, Craig and his water closet, Giuliani dressed as a woman and now the Bush marital crisis.
It's so freaky!

The lack of public confidence in the Republicans and Democrats has corroded the power of these parties and may prepare the country for a change.

A change? hmmm, let's see, Dem Pres and Rep House and Senate? That change? I'm so confused. But I am prepared.

Yeah, stever, I was kind of amused at the notion that frustration with Republicans and Democrats would "corrode their power" and "prepare the country for a change". I would guess that whichever Indian reporter wrote that doesn't comprehend just how different a two-party system is from a parliamentary system.

Also amusing was the idea that the famous "Giuliani in drag" incident constitutes a scandal. I guess it might sound that way if you'd only heard about it secondhand...

Laura Bush did not accompany her husband because she was having surgery for a pinched nerve in her neck. How do stories like this get started anyway?

If Media Matters or Think Progress runs this it'll be the lead story on Keith "Mr. Bush, sir" Olbermann this evening.

I'm sure, though, that he and his crack staff will have the story vetted thoroughly before running it.

Which means, given their past history of checking material, it'll be good to go.

It is interesting though-- the reporting seems to focus on scandals involving sex rather than those involving money (i.e. the scandals now enveloping reps. Doolittle, Jefferson and Renzi, and Senator Stevens).

I wonder if in India sex scandals are a bigger deal than financial scandals?

If you think that's frreaky, you should try to get your news from pandagon....

I think that they need a new translator. They read those threads the other day that said "Rice loves bush" and jumped to entirely the wrong conclusion.

Yep! A Hindu chain of banks melted down, rioting depositors, and the big news was how Richard Gere should pay big for his filthy disgusting act of kissing an Insian actress on the mouth!! at a public rally.

But then again, look at the American media. Drug addict son of a piece of trailer trash dies of an OD. Then the trailer trash icon herself dies of an OD. Net result was almost as much media coverage as the Katrina fiasco and the dysfunctional FEMA and NOLA residents got.

The Brit and Russian lower classes love their tabloid trash just as much. Anna Nicole was big there, too. And only the Brits could make a stupid slut like Lady Diana into a cult.

And in Asia, from China to Guam, a teen idol phenomenon is sweeping the countries every bit as big as the American teen idol phase of 40-50 years ago. This time the object of yellow race lust is S Korean male and female pop singers, a few Japanese teen goddesses, Hakka minority film stars, and an ethnic Chinese Filipino rock-rap group.

Sounds bad, but I suspect it was the other way round.

OK so she's a perky lil' number to have about the place and you can't blame a boy for trying [see Jack Straw passim], but you'd need a whole booze cruise to keep your dander up waiting for that love boat to dock.

Wait, so first Condi's a secret lesbian and now she's in love with George Bush? If this was a soap opera plotline it would be dismissed as too contrived.
