This beautiful moth was posing for a photograph:

ADDED: I see Glenn Reynolds is doing insect closeups today too... and he bought a version of my camera.

Yikes, nice one ... hey Althouse, what camera did you use for this?

Ann, an amazingly fine shot! yes, which camera did you use, and was it on macro setting? I recently got a digital Pentax W20, and the macro setting on it is really neat.

I hope this wasn't in your hotel room.

You can always see which camera I'm using by clicking on the picture. This one was with the Sony DSC-T9, which is smaller than a pack of cards. The pictures from the state capitol grounds were with a full-sized Nikon.

And, yes, I had the macro on.

The moth was holding completely still, on a window ledge outside a store.

Just seems timely to point out a comment I left earlier this week on this post:

The comment reads:

Now, when you get to Texas, the restrooms will probably improve (though they may not, depending on what part of the state you drive through) but here is a necessary link for anyone who will be spending much time in Texas, especially between mid-March and mid-October:

ENOZ offers a complete line of fly tapes, fly swatters and roach powders to maximize your insect protection program

But at least you are there ahead of prime mosquito season (July-September).
