"Madison is now Hockeytown, USA."

You might think it strange that I don't notice sports news more quickly, but...

We're number 1!
UW's scintillating 2-1 victory over Boston College Saturday night at the Bradley Center - renamed the Kohl Center East for the weekend - gave the school its sixth national championship and so much more.

It made UW the first school to win both the men's and women's NCAA hockey champions in the same season. Two weeks ago, the UW women won their first title with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota.

Congratulations, Badgers!

Actually, the lakes didn't even really freeze this winter. And it's a beautiful day today.

My grandmother was an athletic letter awardee at the U. of Wisc. [Tennis in the 1920's] and she was also a devoted hockey fan well into her 90's. I'm sure she is smiling down upon Madison.

Great for UW Madison!! NCAA hockey programs help keep hockey alive and provide an affordable venue for hockey nuts like me. I lived in Chicago when U of Illinois-Chicago had a NCAA team and was able to get season tickets for about the price of a couple of good mezzanine seats for the Blackhawks at the old Chicago Stadium. Sadly now I live in the deep south and have to rely on TV. Thank God there's NHL Center Ice.
College hockey can be more fun to watch. Just about all those kids are hoping that an NHL scout is in the stands and play their hearts out. Anyway, if it ain't played on ice it ain't worth playing. Yah, curling is fun to watch too.
