Running out of time.

With little more than a hour to meet a deadline on a little piece I'm writing, the FedEx guy shows up with that Blue Snowball Microphone I've been waiting for. I can't resist screwing in the little tripod stand, plugging in the USB cord, and firing up Quicktime Pro to test it out. I justify the digression from my writing project by reading what I've written out loud to do my little sound test. I edit a bit as I go. Then -- atwitter with the hope that this is that device that can catapult my podcasting to a whole new level -- I play it back. Is it good? Well, I'll just do an extra little podcast tonight to demonstrate the power of the Snowball! But for now, I must get back to this writing.

Bonus revelation: I have yet to do any Christmas shopping! Me and deadlines -- we have a very close relationship.

What new improvements to the Podcast can we expect with the new mike?

a few socks, is all I ask for...

You can expect better sound! Maybe I'll sing, because the brochure says: "Put [the microphone] in front of any singer and you're sure to get an inspired performance." Maybe I can get John, who's home on vacation, to do an a capella rendering of the Audible Althouse theme song.

I expect this means, being quite far down on the list, I won't be getting pajamas this year either. Though they seemed to be on sale and very cheap(ly) made recently. I heard you weren't buying

I don't know how much shopping you have to do, Ann, but I'm hoping it's not much. I finally managed to send everything to my out-of-state giftees off yesterday, and I actually think I'm done, done, done with shopping. I think.

However, I still have a lot of sorting and wrapping to do....

I managed to make my last "hard" holiday-related deadline this morning, baking my for-the-teachers lemon squares, plating them just moments before school was let out. The teachers never seem to mind getting still-warm-from-the-oven goodies, but I always feel like such an idiot that I'm running around at the last minute like that.

(Confession: I have never, ever, listened to a podcast. Maybe I'll start over the holiday break.)

Ann,

Does this qualify as buying Christmas gifts for yourself?

Is the grotesque Al Gore "preimum ad" also going to run out of time -- ever?

My gawd that's an ugly, annoying ad.

What's the price to make it go away?

Nah. It's been backordered for a while--yes?--and didn't you order it to celebrate either a visitor or page view landmark?

(Glad it's working out for you, Ann.)

I'm expecting squirrel kabobs in my stocking.

With a side of squism.

Singing? Nothing less than "You Light Up My Life" will do!

Maybe some Dylan...you can't be any worse a singer...

Wait, I've got it! You and John can sing The Pogues' "Fairytale in New York!" Perfect for the holidays! C'mon, John, who doesn't want to be Shane McGowan!

Sorry I didn't get to the podcast tonight. It's been a busy day. And I had to watch the Martha finale just now. Look for a new podcast tomorrow!

That's O.K., Ann: We know you're a tease. And that you have shopping to do!
