"We had a real hard time with Inky."

Said Kelly Sheffield, the coach of University of Wisconsin volleyball team, which lost to Stanford in the NCAA tournament regional final last night.
Redshirt senior Inky Ajanaku, who led the Cardinal (25-7) with 20 kills and 11 blocks and was named the tournament’s MVP, said her team was a “little flabbergasted” after the first two sets. But after she gave her youthful but talented teammates a pep talk at intermission, she could sense they were not about to give up.

“I looked in everybody’s eyes and I saw they were ready,” Ajanaku said. “They were ready to be there all night and they were ready to fight.”
AND: Isn't it strange that volleyball is the sport with the most violent lingo? Kills. Where's my trigger warning?

In baseball, when an outfielder throws out a runner trying to advance a base it is called an "assist". Bill James thought that was too wimpy and proposed the term "baserunner kill". I agree!

You think volleyball lingo is violent. Try hockey: Attacking zone, Butt-ending, Bully, Check to the head, Crashing the net, Hit, Paddle, Power play , Shot on goal, Shootout, Sniper, Sunburn, Winger...

Better stick to Backgammon, my little snowflake.

@Meade, you two play Backgammon? You just went up a couple notches in my eyes.

Texas beat Creighton and thereby preventing a Creighton v Nebraska match in the Final Four.

Based on the photo of the Wisky team, I'd say they could use an Inky player or two.....

And what is this crap about the ELITE Eight? Seems exclusionary and demeaning to the other teams.

The NFL & the press has toned down the football rhetoric.

No more "Kill the quarterback" - no more "Fearsome Foursome" "Steel Curtain" no more DB's calling themselves "The Hammer" "The Killer B's" or "The assassin".

They need to raise the net in vollyball and get rid of Giraffes dominating the sport. Or just force each team to rotate positions after each point. Then you'd get more rounded players.

I bet Sarah Palin played volleyball and it is her fault Gabby Gifford got shot and that federal judge was murdered.

Basketball - Power forward, taking a charge, crashing the boards, Flagrant foul, Dead ball foul, hacking, being a gunner, Over the back, pick and roll, push the ball, stuff, post up, take it to the hole.

Volleyball was going to introduce trigger warnings, but somebody spiked the idea.

Hitting a volleyball where no one can get to it to return it is a Bullying act.

But is the verb to bullye when a mere girl, does it?

We need to start a feminist war again. And what's more, the Russians are doping their mere girls.

Yes, I was wondering about that. As you can see from the team photos, height is a considerable advantage in volleyball, same as in basketball. It is therefore surprising that black women don't dominate the game, just as black men dominate basketball. Is a full sports scholarship just not that attractive to young black women? Are their guidance counselors not aware of this opportunity?

EDH at 8:55 AM concurrently wins the thread and demonstrates why watching volleyball makes no sense to me.

Inky's a good idea. By the time you get to her last name you've forgotten her first.

Yeah, athletes don't listen to "Imagine" to get pumped up for sports matches.

The violent language can probably be blamed on Sarah Palin due to her stint as a sports reporter.
