"The Hipster terrorists are attacking!"

Comment at a Facebook post linking to an article with the headline "NYPD Fatally Shoots Man Attacking Cops with Hatchet; Possible Terrorist Link."

UPDATE: The comment at the Facebook post disappeared. I assure you it was there. I don't remember the name of the Facebooker who wrote it. The post was put up by my son John, but the comment wasn't his.

AND: Jeralyn Merritt goes looking for the real story of Zale Thompson. Excerpt:
Zale Thompson is a big fan of Malcolm X. He believes the time has come for violent aggression against the oppressors of African Americans in the U.S....

The Arabic graphic on his FB page is one that appears on many non-jihadist Arabic forums. I don't think his attack was motivated by ISIS. The manner of attack (a hatchet rather than a gun) may have been, but he is not a religious zealot. His cause is racial oppression....

Why would anyone think statements about jihad written in Arabic would be a clue to motive ?

Islamophobia !

Mike K,

He's just a harmless progressive, expressing sympathies with the downtrodden victims of Israeli genocide...

"Hipster" is a hep term among teens these days. Like "liberal", it describes people almost opposite from the people the term was originally invented to describe. Today it means sort of a neo-hipster, and lots of youngsters seem unaware even how to define that-- sits drinking coffee, smokes Camels, maybe wears a skinny tie...

I can't hear the term without thinking of this hilarious blog.

Canada's Stephen Harper knows terrorism when he sees it. He did not hesitate to refer to their attacks as terrorism. Obama will not call it terrorism and stonewall any attempts to publish the truth which will go against his narrative legacy. The terrorists refer to their lone wolf attacks as "Death by a thousand cuts."

There was nothing on the news about this even as late as the 6 O'clock hour on the radio. Why was that?

Typical media hatchet job.

As somebody else said, if Islam wants their legacy to be something besides murder and mayhem, perhaps Muslims might want to work on that.

For the rest of us, I'm sick of pussy-footing around bullshit that, if done by a Christian, would be evidence of theocratic tendencies.

When are we going to recognize that ISIS doesn't issue membership cards? ISIS is an entrepreneurial terrorist organization, not a top-down Soviet style organization.

From NBC 11 days ago: "an ISIS spokesman recorded an audio message that urged lone offenders in Western countries to attack 'soldiers, patrons, and troops … their police, security and intelligence members.'

Interesting that there have been a couple of lone Muslim attacks against the recommended targets.

Hatchet-wielding Muslim wack-jobs, Ebola... Man, Fun City is really living up to the nickname!

If a hatchet is involved I'd suspect native Americans.

No, if it had been a Native American, the weapon of choice would have been a tomahawk! (Ref: Chief Noc-A-Homa of the Atlanta Braves).

I was way into ISIS back in the Tanzim Qaidat al-Jihad fi Bilad al-Rafidayn days, before they sold out. Now I'm involved with this really righteous Bangladeshi microjihad outfit. You wouldn't have heard of it.

Was he wearing Warby Parker glasses -- and was he wearing them before they were mainstream?

The real tragedy would be if this unfortunate incident was used to somehow disparage peaceful Muslims around the world. Or camping enthusiasts.

Hmm, just heard an excerpt from this guy's Facebook page, sounded kinda...familiar...if one hangs out in Althouse's comment sections...

Yeah, go ahead and laugh now. But there is breaking news of a school shooting in Seattle today.

It has become comical, actually, these twists and turns of language and logic contrived to escape the obvious.

I left the comment originally.

It's very important at this moment in time for us to focus exclusively on the many instances of injustices perpetrated by Christians 500 years ago and how Christians today are personally responsible for those injustices.

If we are able to adequately plumb the depths of Christian guilt throughout time then we can shift focus to the second most important item: What have we done to the terrorists to make them hate us so much?

Zale Thompson got tired of waiting for his re-po-ray-shuns check and decided to take it out in trade.

What emerged was a portrait of a man officials described as an out-of-work recluse, who spent hours in his room on the computer browsing radical websites and occasionally left comments on Facebook and YouTube that disparaged whites and Christians and most recently supported violent jihad.....

Mr. Thompson was angered after a recent spate of deaths at the hands of the police, said Frank Sha Francois, Queens chapter president of the New Black Panther Party. Mr. Francois, who met Mr. Thompson through Facebook three years ago, described him as sympathetic to his organization, but not a member. Recently they marched together in a protest against police brutality.

Suddenly, so-called "journalists" who can't tell a Glock from a glockenspiel are now making fine distinctions as to which weapons ISIS might or might not use. Jeralyn Merritt is obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer
