"Public university required students to submit sexual history or face disciplinary action."

"Clemson is requiring students and faculty to complete an online course through a third party website that asks invasive questions about sexual history."
“How many times have you had sex (including oral) in the last 3 months?” asks one question.

“With how many different people have you had sex (including oral) in the last 3 months?” asks another....

“I don’t know what they’re doing with the data, but I’ve been told time and time again that the data that they are collecting, they aren't analyzing or using the data for anything, so then I don’t understand why they’re asking the questions either,” the student, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution from the university, went on to say.
Sex and coercion.

Self sex reports statistics are fantasy data: the women won't admit what happened and the men will brag about what did not happen.

The margin of error will be plus or minus 100%

The only way to respond is to wildly inflated numbers that indicate to the authors of the survey that the questions are stupid, the survey is stupid and the university cannot require me to answer these questions under oath.

So, for the last month I have had sex approximately seven thousand times excluding oral sex which I engaged in twenty four thousand times.

Parents should start paying their tuition bills in pennies if the universities have this much time for bullshit.

Some of the students were likely under 18, which makes the wisdom of a questionnaire like this even shakier.

If everybody surveyed doesn't wildly inflate their numbers, to the point where even complete and total idiots can see that they are incorrect, then they will just filter in as a little bit higher than reality.

And then whoever is using this for research (because whenever somebody asks you for too much data, it is because somebody has a research project going!), will report the (high) data as completely true and it will end up used ad nauseum for a million years (1/4 women on campus are raped!).

Good for the kids fighting it.

Kudos to the Company running this for selling it to a very very gullible Clemson administrator (who doubtless makes 6 figures -- really earning their salary!) I'd really like to know how this was run past the IRB board at Clemson.

Well, you could answer "zero" or "no" to all questions. Or, you could do a binary search to discover the largest numbers the program will accept.

BUT you surely shouldn't have to.

“We believe you’ll enjoy the assignment” And the mandatory genital and rectal exams to follow?

"What rights do victims of campus sexual violence have?" --> The right to make false accusations, with no consequences for the accuser.

What's notably missing: "What rights to the accused have?" --> Suggested answer: you don't need no stinkin' right, now get outa here.

It's been a long time since I was a college freshman, but I'm pretty sure the guy I was would have made up plausible answers that portrayed me as the stud that I wasn't.

That said, the fact is that I cannot imagine a college or university in 1961 thinking it could require answers to such questions.

Although, now that I think of it, there were the infamous nude "posture photographs" back in those days.

1 - It's part of title IX.

2 - It's a university: "Clemson University is a vibrant, student-centered community in South Carolina that thrives on leadership, collaboration, public service, ..."

3 - Socialist is as socialist does.

Complete with a non-apology apology: Required Title IX online training has been suspended pending elimination of certain questions that were associated with a training module provided by a third-party vendor. Clemson University will eliminate these questions. We apologize for any concern and inconvenience this has caused

Now, if my kid were going to Clemson, I'd be wanting to know the name of the administrator who approved this. Because someone did. And that someone has no business working where they are. But will there be accountability over this? Of course not.

Mistakes were made.

This illustrates the progressive belief that they know, or at least can know what is best for everyone, which precedes the use of State power to enforce. They are just gathering information so they can determine what is best for the Clemson undergrads. One they figure that out, wipe is to those who deviate from the Guidelines.

I completely agree. Recent article out that pointed out that young females tend to prefer older, more experienced, males. Younger males on the other hand have always preferred less experienced females. I suspect that the former is due to the women's preference for alpha males for mates, while the latter is probably due to issues of guaranteeing paternity.

Interestingly, looking back over my life, I note that in every long or medium term sexual relationship I have had, I was the more sexually experienced, probably averaging at least twice the number of previous sexual partners of my female partners in each case.

In any case, women, and esp. college and high school aged females, still tend to hide their sexual adventures a lot more than their male counterparts do, at least when they are not in a monogamous sexual relationship. You hear about "slut shaming", and, even today, it is still somewhat effective. And, no doubt, likely feeds into those statistics.

Which, of course, involves the fake campus rape epidemic, the attempt by feminists to redefine rape to include much of normal sexual interaction between the sexes as sexual assault, and eliminate due process for males in such grievances. The humorous part of that, of course, is that the Obama Administration guidelines that all these colleges are being forced to follow are inherently sexist, and therefore probably violate Title IX.

Here would be my answer:

1. It's a university. Who else do you think is in charge. (And as a resident of South Carolina, a conservative state, I can tell you that the schools there do not reflect the politics of the state.

2. Today's conservatives would not favor such a thing. I realize this does not prove that the people behind the surgery are "progressive." They might just be low grade perverts, but if I had to bet, I'd bet that it's a bunch of PC idiots who come up with such questions.

Students who have sex with five or more partners at the same time are asked to refrain from anal sex as this exponentially increases the risk of urinary tract infections. We don't mean this to sound judgmental or prudish, but such common sense precautions are necessary to maintain the reproductive health of our students.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan said...

It is ridiculously intrusive, but also trivial to subvert. So another win for humans versus administrators.

Mrs Whatsit said...

"Students can chose [sic] to answer the questions truthfully or not" writes an anonymous college administrator, seeking to justify the college's mandate that students must answer intrusive questions about their private lives.

Which is worse: 1) that a college administrator can't use the word "choose" correctly in a sentence (and/or can't proofread his or her own written work at the level of competence you'd expect from, say, a first-year undergrad)

or 2) that a college administrator would advise a student, in writing, that it's acceptable to lie as a way of avoiding a question?

Surely it must be some kind of violation of the Clemson code of conduct for a student to give a false answer to a question that the college has ordered the student to answer. And it's probably also a violation of the Clemson code of conduct for faculty or staff to teach students to lie. And if it's not -- if, in fact, the Clemson idea of morality is that it's okay for the college to teach kids to lie and it's better for students to lie about their private lives than to keep quiet about them when faced with prying questions from authority -- what kind of school comes up with ideas of morality like that, and why would any parent, anywhere, pay good money to have their kids educated by people who think like that?

Honestly, if I had a high-school child looking at colleges right now, I'd strongly advise him or her to stay away from all of 'em, and look at trade school or an apprenticeship instead.

This is rather amazing.

Google "Campus Clarity" and you will find that it's a company in Walnut Hills, Ca. The program was put together by CC in conjunction with University of San Francisco. (Not exactly a conservative hotbed, Robert Cook.)

The amazing thing is that schools all across the country seem to be using the program, and requiring that entering students take the course, which is called "Think About It."

My guess is that there is some Title IX regulation of safe harbor that impels the schools to offer such a course. Campus Clarity saw an opportunity and took it, designing a simple online tutorial that met the requirements and could allow the schools to check the box.

The Campus Clarity web site does not indicate who owns the company. Indeed there is not a single name of a human individual on the web site. In a brief search I was unable to find any information about who devised this program, or who runs it. Talk about faceless bureaucrats.

To take the survey (which is done through the Campus Clarity web site) you have to enter your campus email address. So much for privacy.

It's not clear that all versions of the CC program include this questionnaire. What is clear is that a bunch of people in California, who do not want you to know their names, have found a way to profit easily and mightily on a government regulation, and the wave of fear and concern about campus sexual assault. The web site prominently features the statement that one in four college women will experience sexual assault during their time in school.

This is a national phenomonon. Rips offs all the way down, folks.

MadisonMan said...

allow the schools to check the box.

And that is all this is. Some Asst Dean or Vice Provost somewhere can now add this to their list of tasks accomplished.

Brando said...

I for one see this as a key step in putting an end to the flurry of rapes that are being inflicted on campuses nationwide. Hear me out.

First, any student filling out this survey will say "hmm, an anonymous random survey where there will be no followup or chance for anyone to verify my answers. I will be entirely truthful here because that's how I am with all surveys." So the school will have accurate information about the sexual activity of its students.

2) With that reliable information, the school will be able to estimate that X sexual encounters took place over Y period of time involving Z students. Out of that total, they can assume that 20% of the sexual encounters were rape, because that's the generally accepted statistic.

3) Knowing that X/5 rapes occurred over Y period of time will help Clemson deploy resources to prevent such rapes from recurring. Presto, fewer cases of sexual assault.

Now, you may be wondering how a survey that doesn't identify specific cases of sexual assault, specific victims, or specific perpetrators could possibly be of any use in addressing such assaults. But then, you're not running a Title IX program so clearly this would be over your head.

How many sex partners has your mother had? 1. Five or less. 2. Six to twelve. 3. 13 to 25. 4. More than 25. I read that this was a question on a survey as part of a study about how angry people could be induced to be by surveys and other factors, such as how angry other people around them became to the same stimuli.

BTW, Clemson is a part of the NPR archipelago, like Chapel Hill, Ann Harbor, and Madison. I spent two years there in grad school upgrading my teaching certificate. Total PC leftism throughout.
