"Married high school teacher Jennifer Vigil, 31, allegedly pounced on her now 18-year-old victim at Pojoaque Valley High School..."

"... 'You're not leaving until I get something from you,' she reportedly threatened him."
He said he refused to have intercourse but agreed to let her perform oral sex so he could leave — taking a cellphone picture of the act which he later handed to police as evidence.

They then had sex some days later after Vigil dismissed a science class.

Vigil — married since July 2009 — told cops the "relationship" was consensual and says the student made the first move. But he claims he found the whole incident "disgusting."

Since there are multiple stories about this every week, and kids are at least 1,000 times more likely to be sexually assaulted by a teacher than shot in school, where are the "do it for the children" Democrats on this epidemic?

Oh, ignoring it because teachers unions are some of their largest contributors.

Never mind.

Let's see, using Cedarford's reasoning (which is seldom logical): We are hearing about these incidents only once in a while, and since most incidents like this are not reported due to intimidation of the victims, THEN THIS HAPPENDING MOST OF THE TIME.

Because the Church moved them from one parish to another.... the number of abusers per a predator was really high.

The percentage of priests actually harming was low, but damage was significant.

What does it mean public schools have a history of "covering it up even more"? They're better at covering it up? They go to greater lengths?

Nobody is surprised that pedophiles are attracted to teaching, so they turn up.

But Guggenbuhl-Craig adds that borderline pedophiles make good teachers, because they can sustain an interest in the kids where a normal adult cannot.

Women also get that edge over men, in the ability to sustain an interest.

There's a huge media eyeball market for the thing in any case, probably a market for the narrative of the innocent child and its recoil narrative, the evil adult.

The innocent child is a recent development.

It is my recollection that public schools evolved from orphanages in Germany in the 1750s. The orphanages had appeared shortly after the rise of larger mills. Orphanages, conveniently located near the mills, supplied mill workers by day and sex workers by night. Before the mills, the orphanages weren't needed.

I have a hard time believing that a teenage boy could not physically get away from his teacher. Even if the door was locked, he could have just waited it out or taken the keys away by force, right? I just find that unlikely.

Now if he's saying that he was worried about grades or some other repercussions then that's a different story. She should be fired, either way obvoiusly.

Secular teachers, counselors, psychologists, social workers--people that work with children, especially those alone with children in their work, lead the statistics for sexual abuse of children. By a wide margin. NYC has a special place that insiders call "the rubber room" where teachers show up to collect a paycheck with no work required after they have been accused of abuse. In those cases criminal charges couldn't be brought for some reason--like the lack of cooperating witnesses. School system always tried to make the cases go away quietly whenever possible and many parents choose to just help the whole thing go away. It not just in the US. The UK schools did the same thing for a hundred years or more. Teachers may be asked to leave and are given a reference. The teachers move on to places that are unaware of their personal history. As far as total number and even frequency go, Catholic priests are way down on the list. You may think differently because of the inordinate amount of press those cases received. It had a lot to do with thirty years of past abuse being discussed all at once, however. And rumors about large and quick settlements drawing out false accusers.

As she was kind of cute, but to me it was unthinkable to act upon it. If she did hit on me I probably would be more like this guy, than a willing participant. Having an adult woman deflower me at the time would have been beyond terrifying. And even if I wanted it, I would still have the reaction of it being wrong because she was my teacher.

In high school we also had a male teacher who had an affair with a female student. And he was drummed out of there so fast, not to mention brought up on charges.

Dante said...

My inability to understand why the guy wouldn't be wanting the woman is NOT the same as saying the guy wanted to be raped.

First, when I think of an equivalent rape of a male to a female, I think of a guy pushing the shit up in another guy against his will (that's a quote from a movie).

Second, at least part of him had to want it, since otherwise the intercourse part simply wouldn't be possible.

But again, I leave the door open:

Maybe you can help me to understand.

even if you find someone hot, it doesn't always mean you have a Desire to act on it at that moment. Case in point, when I was in college I worked in a coffee bat as a barista/assistant manager. And I had one coworker who had the hots for me. And I thought she was cute too. So we had a bit of a flirtatious thing going, but I always tried to nip it in the bud because I didn't like having relationships with coworkers at the time. And one day she told me I could have sex with her down in the basement while at work.

So on one hand, free sex. On the other hand sex at work with a coworker. Are there cameras? If I have sex does she tell all her friends and then they all know my business at work? So I declined.

And it became awkward between us going forward. I can't say that I don't sometimes regret not taking her up on her offer.

The worst thing about calling this stuff "rape" is that it robs the word of all meaning. Actual rape is horrendous, and I don't know how anyone ever recovers from it. From Alice Sebold's (non-fictional) Lucky: A Memoir:

"I was on the ground on my stomach. He sat on my back. He pounded my skull into the brick. He cursed me. He turned me around and sat on my chest. I was babbling. I was begging. Here is where he wrapped his hands around my neck and began to squeeze. For a second, I lost consciousness. When I came to, I knew I was staring up into the eyes of the man who would kill me.

At that moment I signed myself over to him. I was convinced that I would not live. I could not fight anymore. He was going to do what he wanted to me. That was it.

Everything slowed down. He stood up and began dragging me over the grass by my hair. I twisted and half crawled, trying to keep up with him. Dimly, I had seen the dark entrance of the amphitheater tunnel from the path. As we neared it, and I realized it was our destination, a rush of fear ran through me. I knew I would die."

Shanna said...

Would a someone who doesn't want to have sex with someone just lay back and take it?

In my mind, they would fight. Hence the question of whether he couldn't have done so, and successfully. It's not mocking, but I think the number of 17 yo guys who couldn't physically ward of a 5ft tall female is rather small.

Maybe because a women willing to risk losing everything for sex at school is not right in the head. Or has a sexually transmitted disease and just wants to punish men that she has some control over. Or wants a threat to hold over his head. Not every man wants to have sex in those situations. I would say MOST would be horrified.

There is a large power difference here. What would have happened to him if she had cried rape? And that is just one stick a seriously messed up women (if this case proves to be true) could use on him.

Being a young hot-blooded male does not make you retarded. And you are wrong about a involuntary nervous response to a sex act (and an erection at a physiological level is just that) also means that he, at some level, 'wanted' it. That is the same lame excuse leveled at women.

In 2010, about 2,700 teens in the United States aged 16–19 were killed and almost 282,000 were treated and released from emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor-vehicle crashes.1

Young people ages 15-24 represent only 14% of the U.S. population. However, they account for 30% ($19 billion) of the total costs of motor vehicle injuries . . .

He could have been gay, or for some other reason actually "disgusted", but it's a long shot. Then if he was, it's another long shot that he couldn't stop the "rape", especially all the additional times afterward. Put both together, and I ain't buying that this is rape, anymore than it's rape if a woman decides after consensual sex that she wishes she hadn't done it.

You're asking us to accept a feminist construct where women are powerful and men are weak. And women are rapists and men are victims.

But the biological reality is that he is bigger and stronger than she is. And so a force allegation--on these facts--is absurd.

What would have happened to him if she had cried rape?

I think a false claim of rape is far more serious than horseshit like this.

I know liberal society doesn't actually give a damn what men think. But if you did, I think I can speak for our whole gender when I say a false rape claim is far scarier than girls who say we can't leave the room.

Just ask any male university professor if it is safe to be alone with a female student. The male may have the physical advantage. But he keeps his door open to protect himself against her true advantage.

Not really. The guy is near his sexual peak, and the gal is nearing hers. They are probably better matched sexually at that age than they will be even ten years later.

Bruce Hayden said...

Let me throw something out to incite the commenters here. Why is male rape of a female typically considered much worse than the opposite?

I was off a couple of days ago following some strange links concerning male/female relationships, and one poster claimed that the two sexes had similar sexual strategies. Another countered that they are quite different, with the male strategy is "more", while the female strategy is "better". What that means is that with many animals, and esp. with most other primates, a male maximizes his genetic legacy through having sex with as many females as possible, but females maximize through having sex with the males with the best genes. And, that is because of the different investments each of the two sexes typically (for a primate) makes in having and raising children. So, from that point of view, rape by a male of a female may result in her becoming pregnant with a child with inferior genes. And, that choice is key, her selection of whose genes to further with her childrearing. But, for males being raped by a female, any resulting child is a bonus genetically and evolutionarily.

Now, we, as humans, have grafted a further layer on top of this monkey behavior, where monogamous pair bonding has traditionally resulted in more descendants because the males dedicate their resources to raising their mate's children because of a belief that they are his too. But, I would suggest that this is sometimes not much more than a veneer over the more basic behavior pattern of "more"
and "better", deeply wired into our brains.

Yes, this is called chivalry. Feminism dismantled it. What does this have to do with anything?

She is being charged with rape because feminism demands that we treat the two sexes as equals, even when it's utterly ridiculous.

No feminist construct needed.

Of course it is. You think this woman would be prosecuted for "rape" in 1940? The whole idea is absurd. Rape was always defined as a crime that men committed.

Feminism is obsessed with gender neutrality, even when it comes to sex itself, which is idiotic.

Saint Croix said...

And then the police show up. Big men with guns! But unfortunately she locks the door and tells them that they cannot leave, either. And the police think, "oh no, she might file a false rape claim against us." So then the police have to take off their clothes, too. We're all helpless against the power of the 100-pound woman who is raping us. Oh no!

Have you noticed that this does not actually sound like real life, but more like a porno?

Just ask any male university professor if it is safe to be alone with a female student. The male may have the physical advantage. But he keeps his door open to protect himself against her true advantage.

You are projecting a 40-year-old man's fears onto a 17-year-old boy. It does not actually occur to a 17-year-old boy that his penis might get him into trouble. You might warn him of disease, or unwanted pregnancy, but then he thinks, "Condom! Problem solved!"

Anyway, I agree that feminism is a dangerous threat to men (and babies!), and we should mock the feminists for their stupid ideology at every opportunity. But I do not agree that we should prosecute sex-crazed bad girls as rapists.

Aim your fire at the evil feminists who have made you afraid to be alone with a woman, and leave those sex-crazed bad girls alone.

This is the key, here. Set aside physical advantage--most male students know it's simply not an option, unless they want to be charged with assault. He's left with a rather bad set of options if he doesn't want to have sex.

And this idea that any 17yo boy is going to want to have sex with any 30yo teacher (no matter how hot) is silly. There were any number of attractive female teachers when I was in school, and while I might have willingly had sex with some of them, others were simply bat-shit crazy. Everyone knew to stay away from them. Chances are, this teacher had a reputation. This isn't the sort of thing you do once. He may have been more than well aware of what he was getting into with her.

But this is all speculation. We don't know the details. But suggesting that he is somehow lying about finding it "disgusting" is ridiculous. There are a thousand reasons he might have thought it so.

Hmmmm, arguing from the lefty point of view, a teaching position is a position of authority. There is no such thing as a consensual relationship from that point.

Hmmmm, arguing from the righty point of view, a teaching position is a position of authority. There is no such thing as consensual relationship from that point.

Arguing from the pederast view, I would have liked that when growing up and now that I am grown up you folks are just prudes. Leave us pederasts alone!

One other observation, since the arguments laid out in courts regarding positions of authority in regards to sexual harassment in the workplace are pretty much laid out. Why is it that this has not been implemented in regards to all schools be they high school or universities?

But hey, you folks continue to make excuses for these pederasts and harassers. Kind of outrageous this "teacher" actually has the gall to say it was consensual. This is the same argument used in the workplace argument. Just as in every situation where a person has the authority of another, ie rape, there is no such thing as consensual.

Some of you freaks.........freak me out.

It's time to get some actual statistics on this, and compare it to the relative incidence of such things as Catholic priests, soccer coaches, Scout leaders, etc.

I bet no one in the MSM will EVER do this.

Oh man, it was so disgusting! I had to hit it again, just to make sure.

You are such a pervert!

Okay, one more time, but that's it.

Palladian,

Why are we wasting money prosecuting this sort of nonsense? Seems like the "poor young victim" is just trying to cash in, after getting his rocks off a couple of times.

We're prosecuting "this sort of nonsense" because it's an appalling misuse of authority and trust.

Is it just media selection bias, or do most of these cases seem to involve female perps? I mean, yes, Sandusky. But there have been a number of "female public high school teacher statutorially rapes male student" cases in my memory. Including one in which the perp got pregnant and sued (IIRC, successfully) her statutory rape victim for child support.

Lydia,

The worst thing about calling this stuff "rape" is that it robs the word of all meaning. Actual rape is horrendous, and I don't know how anyone ever recovers from it.

Ah, so this wasn't rape-rape, then. It's always nice to have the terms clarified.

If the sexes were reversed, and the 30-year-old teacher demanded that the 17-year-old female student give him a BJ, what would you call it?

Michelle Dulak Thomson said...

Dante,

And why didn't he drop his class? He was asking for it: he knew what she wanted. That's like asking to be raped.

Um, Dante, you don't generally get to "drop" classes in high school. Most of them are mandatory for graduation. And even those that are elective you can't just disappear from without the involvement of your parents. Which would inevitably have involved explanations that the kid might have found deeply embarrassing.

I've been assuming he was 17. Apparently the police have no evidence that he was.

So there's a strong possibility that he was actually an adult. Yes, a man, who can be drafted and sent to Vietnam. Are we comfortable saying that this adult man was violated by a woman? Not just violated but raped?

You're not leaving until I get something from you.

Scary psycho killer or soap opera dialog?

Q: Why didn't you use your cell phone to call for help?

A: I was too embarrassed. Plus I wanted to take a picture of the bj.

Q: Why did you have sex with her twice?

A: I have no free will. I'm still a child. I plan on living with my parents until I am 28. Yes, I voted for Obama.
