"What Hostages in Algeria? Manti Te'o Had a Composite Girlfriend!"

Where's your sense of proportion?

Lance Armstrong and Manti Te'o are the squirrels to the labrador retriever that is the American public.

This is a big story because the press doesn't want to cover the story of the woman who accused ND player of rape and then killed herself. They want to talk about ND and ND football (I don't know why -- it's not like ND is any good), but they don't want to talk about icky things, and made-up women aren't icky. Can't be.

This fascinates me.

A smart guy, allegedly. At a smart school (supposedly). Hoaxed, or was hoaxed. The sports writers soaked it up since it was inspirational or something. A dead grandmother and a dead girlfriend.

Everyone made money, right?

Where's that story?

Some of the motivation behind the MSM's excitement over Manti Te'o stems from SanduskyGate. Their's a scalp and a chance at fame here, and everyone wants it. The novel and movie will be called All the NCAA's Men.

Despite what rhhardin says, it is not just women who are being distracted by "soap opera". If only that were true. It would be easy enough for the noble, sensible, logical men to distract the silly women with trivia while they were off solving all the problems we women created.

No; men are into the soap opera too. With the internet and all the info it makes available to us at our fingertips, people- men and women- chose to focus on the silly. The majority of us are willingly uninformed; and we'll get what we deserve for making that choice.

Manti's rumored to be working out a deal to write his first memoir, Dreams of My Girlfriend.

Bread and circuses, people.

I'm just about totally in agreement with Dennis Miller:

Find a nice Barca Lounger, make some popcorn and relax in the chair and just watch the parade.

The fascination with Te'o IMHO is not connected to Sandusky. Pedophilia has deeper roots ( the Church and some in False Memory Syndrome).

Te'o flows more from Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods, athletes who betrayed their loving fans. Not That Te'o betrayed anyone. From what we know now.

I like the part about how Barry had one, too.

Actually, it was just another guy's girl. Too bad she blew herself up 25 years earlier.

From today's NY Post:

The "dead girlfriend" of Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o was revealed yesterday as a very much alive California woman, Diane O'Meara, 23, whose ID was stolen in the hoax. O'Meara says she had no idea her photos were cut-and-pasted to become the imaginary "Lenny Kekua."

Based on the Post photo she's got a terrific figure.

Rush is back in action. Great stuff.

It is classic myth making from little or no true events. It resembles the Saints Making operation institutionalized by the Catholic church.

The Four Horsemen of the 1926 Notre Dame football team under a Norwegian tough guy coach is the beginning of Football Idolatry in National news that is so dear to us.

The Crowley, Layden. Miller and Stuhldrer names still run off the tongue like Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.

Man Ti is being used as the latest empty shell football player we want to worship based on his Saintly story.

His fall from the pedestal had the Notre Dame head spin master crying on live TV special report for an hour about the fall of Notre Dame's Virgin Linebacker at the hands of an internet devil.

It will be ghostwritten by William Ayers and she will be a sensual collectivist composite.

Why doesn't Te'o get himself a plastic girlfriend, like a normal guy?

Te'o should have sent out his avatar to play the National Championship game. His meat self got its ass kicked.

Catholics are great people that are highly educated and show mercy at most times. I love Catholics.

But centralized myth making has to have boundaries or it will lead you nowhere.

rhhardin said...

It's not the American public but the target audience of the American media, a 20% proportion, namely 40% of women.

The rest of you aren't tuning in anyway.

With Al Qaeda moving closer to the huge uranium deposits in neighboring Niger, our close friend and ally, France, has placed troops on the ground to protect our shared interests. Hostages are much less of a priority than preventing AQ from making a yellow cake bomb.

This is like the guy when asked by his buddies why he is t dating says he has plenty of girl friends. But they live out of the state. And they can't go to the prom because their grand mom just died. You know just pulling shit out of their butt to not have to admit that they are gay or can't get dates.

And actually in the age of online dating and daring, you can actually have such a "relationship" with someone legitimately. I.e. a non relationship relationship. A girl friend who's really a dude who has sex with you online and who's entire backstory is complete fiction.

So his story could be legitimate though there is some question about when he knew it was a hoax.
But even if he was hoodwinked legitimately, . Why he would think this person was his girlfriend says a lot about what a loser he is..
Until you meet the person for real and have a real relationship with them for real, its just mental masturbation.

Why is this a scandal though?

We're still not talking about the hostages, American or otherwise, or the movement of terrorists in far-away places.

How would you classify the mutual interest? Who reaps direct benefit from the natural resources located in Africa and the Middle East, especially oil and fissile materials?

The big story is how lame the press is. I don't go looking for this crap, they throw it at you all day long. Every outlet, every opportunity. I don't mind hearing about it, but you can't get away from it. Real people are dying, and that's not interesting enough? Sure it happens all the time, but so does this trivia. All sports is trivia, and that's where this story should have stayed.

'"Terrorists should be on notice that they will find no sanctuary, no refuge, not in Algeria, not in North Africa, not anywhere," Panetta said Friday.'

Are you kidding me? Threats from the asshole Administration that hasn't gotten the Benghazi terrorists.

Fools elected by dupes turning our country into an ineffectual laughing stock.

Hagar said...

Actually, n.n., that could get to be interesting in terms of unintended consequences.

Some of these people are fundmentalist to the extent that they are blowing up revered Moslem shrines in the old Saharan towns.

It is unlikely they will be greatly enthused about uranium enrichment plants and other such features of modern industrial life.

This story is no big deal. I mean after all Aaron Rodgers has had imaginary girlfriends for many years.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Wait wait wait, are you trying to tell me that the media did not perform any investigation, and bought hook line and sinker the mythical feel good story of someone from Hawaii?

That happened to fit the narrative that they wante to push, and was bought by the American public? That cannot be so, the media is comprised of layers of fact checkers and editors, who are JOURNALISTS with integrity, and never let their own biases affect their reporting.

Baron Zemo said...

In fact this year good old Aaron is going to wear an imaginary Super Bowl ring. Again.

These scandalous stories are mostly interesting in that they highlight how bone-ass lazy the MSM can be.

Traditional Guy: I once met Harry Stuhldrer, (I believe it was Harry anyway), in the Pretzel Bell restaurant in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was a bus boy, and Stuhldrer, (a very old man at that time, 1964 aprox.)came to the register to pay his tab. The owner recognized him and expressed his pleasure at having him as a customer. Others began to gather around, asking for autographs, etc. Someone asked him his favorite memory of Rockne and he launched into this story. As the Four Horsemen's fame spread, they became a bit insufferable, swaggering around campus instead of walking, and spending a lot of time reading their own news articles. The lineman, who were known as the "Seven Mules" were miffed by this and morale was sagging. Sensing a potential problem, Stulhdrer said that in the next game, Rockne pulled the starting line, putting in some scrubs. The opposing team surged through dropping the Horsemen for severe losses. Desperate, the Horsemen looked to the sidelines seeking the return of the starters. Instead, Rockne took a megaphone and yelled at the hapless backfield, "Show them your clippings, show them your clippings". Stuhldrer said that that solved that problem.

Word is the administration is scouring YouTube for videos to blame the Algerian hostage situation on.

Notre dame failed. They lost to the evil, racist Southerners led by Eddie Lacy and must be punished.

Lacy announced today that he is going pro. Te'o, who is still trying to get Lacy's cleat marks out of his chest, has Lacy on his fantasy team. He's in the backfield with his girlfriend.

Oh, who cares about Benghazi, or hostages in Algeria, or Muslim terrorists being put in charge of Egypt by Obama, or his jobs council that hasn't met in a year?

Only nay-sayers.

No one gives a shit that we are still almost four million jobs short of where we were in December of 2007. No one cares that the median income keeps falling.

No one cares that the US government decided to arm Mexican drug gangs in an effort to make gun owners and sellers look bad. No one cares that the President's gun control legislation will be useless.

No one cares.

You know how I know?

Because the American public re-elected this guy. If people really gave a shit about important issues, President Failure would be serving out his last days, instead of getting ready to take the oath of office again.

So let's talk about Te'o! That story at least has the benefit of being funny.

Haha, Rush is brilliant and awesome.

Good question: Why is this such a big story?

Shows how any story can be spun to support the/a narrative:
-Famewhores run amok
-Men are dumb and/or liars
-Football is dumb
-head injuries in football (ban football)
-Notre Dame - seems kind of Penn Statey but with Catholics
-online is a weird place, look out
-maybe he's gay
-does this qualify as bullying?
-media is all-powerful; can make or break
-media is lame; can't/won't fact-check for shit

It's the perfect storm for the media because they get to talk about themselves, which is all lightweight opinion and spin and no actual factual reporting, and not do the hard work of figuring out what's going on in Algeria, and report the uncomfortable reasons why this has occurred and why American lives are once again in the balance.
