"Democrats hailed Mr. Cuomo's aggressive gun-control push..."

"... citing it as an example of a muscular brand of politics that the governor has made his signature in two years in office. He has bent a Legislature partially controlled by Republicans to his will on other liberal issues, such as legalizing gay marriage and solidifying higher tax rates for the wealthy."

Hail! Governor Cuomo, O muscular leader, you of the aggressive push! Yea, even as Superman to a bar of steel, you have bent a Legislature!

Muscular politics. Makes me want to demonstrate Godwin's Law.

And, New York lost nearly 2.9 million residents to other states between 1990 and 2010 – the biggest domestic migration outflow, relative to population, of any state during that 20-year period.

Keep clapping, idiots.

The Andrew Cuomo who as Clinton's HUD Secretary put in place the disasterous that lead to the housing and bank disaster.

One good thing about this idiot and the other one in the White House is they are the high water mark of liberalism. By 2020 when the pendulum has swung in the other direction they will be lucky if getting spat on in the streets is all that happens to them.

Brian Brown said...

If gun control is so great, how come we have no gun control success stories?

Or is all those blacks dying in Chicago - while the white Jew mayor does nothing - considered a success?

And connecting everything to abortion in other legislation, no exemptions.

I love when dynastic politicians in fiscally moribund states get muscular.

Obama voted "present" on IL State Senate bill (SB0759) which "Provides for adult
criminal prosecution of a minor at least 15 years of age who is
charged with aggravated battery with a firearm committed in a school,
on the real property comprising a school, within 1,000 feet of the
real property comprising a school, at a school-related activity, or
on or within 1,000 feet of a conveyance owned, leased, or contracted
by a school or school district to transport students to or from
school or a school-related activity.
"

Vote recording.

The only life that may have been helped by this bill is the political life of Andrew Cuomo on the national stage

Great quote.

How nice that NY will be safer now that gun control is upped!

...muscular brand of politics...

The word "muscle" comes from the Latin musculus, which is the diminutive of mus, the Latin word for mouse.

little mousy brand of politics...

Brian Brown said...

Remember, when Democrats institute silly, ineffective, draconian laws it is muscular.

When a Republican signs legislation they "shoot from the hip" and are shoot 'em up cowboys!

From a WAPO article...

In addition to outlawing a broader array of military-style weapons, the measure restricts ammunition magazines to seven rounds, down from the current 10,

So we already see how disingenuous those whining about limiting magazines to ten rounds are.

No new set of laws should be described as "sweeping" unless it repeals other laws or regulates actual, you know, sweeping.

It is kind of hard to take the President, who as a state senator voted against cracking down on school shootings and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, seriously on "saving children's lives"

But of course we apparently are no longer a serious nation...

A law in response to Sandy Hook that would not stop the sort of tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook.

Yep, that's muscular, in a metro sexual sort of way.

Seems to me Cuomo has set up a scenario where law abiding citizens leave New York thus concentrating the number of criminals to a declining number of potential victims. Ratio of good folks to criminals and all. Like adding more wolves to a flock of sheep.

Mogget said...

I heard that this legislation is so poorly done that it doesn't exempt the cops from the mag capacity limits. If so, what a bunch of maroons.

It's really too bad for him that the country will be in absolute chaos, burried by the effects of leftist policies, when he'll be ready to run for Pres.

He'll never get out of the blocks.

Automatic_Wing said...

Obama couldn't vote for the Illinois bill because it was clearly aimed at stopping black and Latino teenage gangbangers from bringing their pieces to school.

Gun control is only a liberal virtue if it's percieved as an attack on redneck gun nuts.

"But seven round magazines are virtually unobtainable."

Gov. Cuomo: [steepling hands and speaking in voice of Mr. Burns] "Eeeexcelent".

Bloomberg's gun control success story is all the stop and frisk stuff. Keeps the minorities where they should be and only the good, articulate, middle-class folks get into the right neighborhoods.

Then maybe cut a deal where you put some Hispanics in some green towers.

White people who have like a 75% or above white majority LOVE diversity. This new progressive coalition is GREAT.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

It's amazing how democrats feel that stomping on our constitutional liberties will actually make us safe.
Bad people do bad things. No silly pen to paper signature or freedom squishing law will ever change that.

Rick Caird said...

Cuomo has just provided another reason for people from New York State to move to Texas. Texas has already said they will welcome them open arms.

Gun control legislation will not get a single person to move to New York. It will only provide another reason to leave.

That would be just great if Democrats weren't so confused about who the enemy are.

Come on all you conservatives, Southerners, racists, suburban unwashed masses, libertarians, white male patriarchs, fundamentalists.....various and sundry skeptics, free thinkers and doubters.

We've got a big quilt for you. It's made out of 100% multiculturalism and diversity. You can fit all of your religions under here. Come on.

-Invest in your community
-Your racism will disappear
-Men and women are equal (what are sexuality and marriage anyways?)
-We'll take away the bad things
-Environmentally sustainable

Downsides:

-Higher taxes
-Fewer jobs
-Political corruption
-Loss of liberty
-Economically unsustainable
-May exacerbate existing dividing lines in your society
-May lead to unnecessary war

Mass murders have been occurring for thousands of years. They usually took the form of an insane person starting a fire in a building occupied by a lot of people. Additionally, they would often use some type of accelerant to spread the fire more quickly and make escape less likely. To that latter end, doors were often blocked or chained to increase death tolls.

Imagine if the doors on the school had been chained after Adam Lanza ran down the one central hallway spilling out gasoline from a five-gallon container. Would we be mourning 456 students? Would the "choke-point" and limited access/egress strategies make that new death toll (456) more or less likely.

I always liked the story of the war elephants of Hannibal going into Spain and crossing the Pyrenees and then the Alps and descending on Rome from the north.

Cuomo has a lot of bending left to do to defeat the Clintons. And Cuomo is no Hannibal.

Myths are made fresh everyday in the propaganda age.

See the respect that bi-partisanship gets you, Republicans?

Remember when the Democrats were touting Rod Blagojevich as a potential Presidential candidate? I do. He had the cred--stopping the shipment of napalm to contracted destruction facilities (costing taxpayers extra $Millions) and negotiating with
Slobodan Milošević (with Jesse Jackson.)

By the time the complete picture of Blago was forming, you could swear they were saying that he was a Republican. I would bet that some in the media actually made that "slip." Regardless, you never heard the word Democrat associated with his name.

The uterus is a muscle too. How did you think babies were born, that they just fell out?

The muscle can get weak, and actually flop out, it's called a prolapse uterus. TMI I know, but since you just learned the vagina was a muscle.

I think this is good news. We need an example of leftist policy results. Michigan has been providing that for a decade or two, but now they're showing signs of sanity. NY, California, and Illinios are competing to replace Michigan. Presumably when the performance difference becomes large enough even the left will realize their fantasies should stay in books.

We should be happy that police weren't excluded from its restrictions.

Here's how bad it's getting. The Chicago chief of police, with the approval of the city board, has authorized the Nation of Islam to patrol certain parts of the city. Essentially giving police power to a sophisticated gang.
