9th bloggiversary!

It was 9 years ago today that I started this blog.

And it's been 9 years of blogging every single day — weekends, holidays, never a single day without a post written by me, with never any substitute bloggers taking my place, and an average, in the last year, of 13+ posts a day. I hope you like it. But even if you hate it: Thanks for reading.

I can't say any longer that I'm the only one who's ever posted on the front page of this blog, because a few weeks ago, I authorized my brilliant and trustworthy husband Meade to co-blog. So far, he's done posts pushing the Amazon Associates program, which is the primary way this blog produces income. I hope you enjoy even the Amazon intrusions, especially now that they are laced with Meade-charm.

Congrats, Madame, you work very hard on the blog, and it shows.

Hopefully, your sweetie can take some of the load off your shoulders.

PS Maybe it's time to re-christen the vessel Meadhouse?

congratz on the Nine Years of Daily Posting. That truly is a remarkable accomplishment.

But why does it have to only be a choice between liking and hating the blog? 'cause quite a few folks sure do love it...

Been reading you (and your fractious commentariat) for years. You are simply in a class by yourself. Thanks for the great combination of curiosity, intellect, and love for our American founding principles.

Congratulations Ann! There are days that I can say I hate this blog, or maybe the comments section, but more often find myself fascinated, engrossed, disgusted, laughing out loud, or cussing out loud, even enlightened.

Thanks!

You gotta give Althouse credit for nine years of blogging. Big praise for that.

And you, a college professor.

Sorry, I just enjoy saying that so much.

Thanks Ann, I very much appreciate your efforts and dedication. I started with you about six months in and I have always enjoyed reading your posts and commenting, even though I occaisionally fed the trolls.

Most always, when you've said "Althouse," you've said it all.

Congrats! Thanks for all that you do. Please keep it up.

I read a lot of blogs, and rarely comment but I have to say that yours probably has the widest and most thought-provoking range of topics of all of them.

I'm a big fan of curt shilling, too.

Congrats, Althouse, and thanks for the space.

Congratulations, Ann! I blogged for a while myself, although not on a daily basis. I got burned out about three years ago and let it slide, so I know what goes into doing it so prolifically.

OT, but since there hasn't been a cafe thread lately, I'll share this story here.

We have a citrus packing house here locally that ships Indian River fruit around the country. Their signature fruit is the honeybell tangelo, a cross between a grapefruit and a tangerine that is large, sweet and juicy. They are only available in January, although they have a package that sends honeybell marmalade before Christmas and then a box of honeybells in January. I send these Honeybell Express packages to all of my friends and family Up North as a Christmas present.

Anyway, on Saturday morning, I got an email from my friend Barbara in Chicago:

Hi Clyde,

My sister Julie, in Sarasota. called yesterday to tell us that her sister-in-law passed away after her 2 -year fight with cancer. Cathy was the first of the 6 S------ kids. Julie's husband is 2 years younger. So Julie & her family are driving up this weekend for the funeral.

From time to time, my sister Gail (the nurse) would drive to the south side of Chicago to help care for Cathy. Gail was there Thursday, the day before Cathy died. She brought Cathy one of the honeybells. She peeled it and fed each segment to Cathy. Gail told me that Cathy really enjoyed the orange and said. "This is how an orange should taste".

I just wanted you to know and to thank you. One of her last earthly pleasures was that delicious Florida sweetness.

Well, that hit me like a ton of bricks. I was very sad about the death of a woman I'd never even met, but glad that even in the most indirect way, I'd helped to bring some light to her last days. It just goes to show that we don't always know that positive effects we can have on other people, even indirectly.

That's a hell of a thing, Clyde. You just never know when a particular kindness will matter.

An amazing accomplishment, but you might just be nuts. Happy Anniversary, and yes, I do very much appreciate both the quantity and the quality of the work. Unsurpassed in my opinion.

From one Althouse to another congrats. I would keep reading even if you had changed your name when you married Meade. It is always fascinating to see how reasonably intelligent people can look at the same information and arrive at such disparate conclusions on such a wide array of topics.
