The last Flamingo dies.

John E. Carter was 75.
"We rehearsed a long time on that song... In fact we were almost ready to give it up. We couldn’t get it like we wanted to. And Johnny started bringing in that tenor and it started fitting in."

His music was a great part of the late 1950s and early 1960s and was 3 times more popular then folk singers like Dylan and Baez. But alas, all was washed away by the sudden 65 to 69tidalwave of a popular drug culture with its hard rock musical themes .

Hey, when did the Blog Motto change again? "An Immoderate voice" will be a high standard for the Professor to live up to. She will need all of our help with that one.

(1) I was rehearsing for a play. One of the other actors was a musicologist. She said black people were so good at singing falsetto because of the shape of their skulls. This caused me to wonder whether that was a racist statement.

(2) Flamingos at the zoo really stink so I imagine the singing group got pretty tired of the jokes pretty fast.

Hey, I have an idea. Let's stick him in someone's front lawn.

The Flamingos were a terrific group; listening to doo-wop is like a passport to an alternate reality, isn't it? So cool and mellow. What a great vibe.

Not really digging the lawn-jockey joke upthread, I've gotta say.

wv: "merki" - the character of the room reverb effect used on many a Flamingos tenor vocal track.
