"Kate Winslet's very naked performance was denied a spot on Mr. Skin's Top Celebrity Nude Scenes of 2008."

Defamer asks: "Could this be an Oscar precursor?
Poor Harvey Weinstein just can't catch a break for The Reader.
I read "The Reader." Eh. I also read Mr. Skin's list and it's pretty funny. You can get an idea what his standards are. Maybe Kate's scenes weren't brightly lit enough. All females though, which reduced the competition.

Too bad for Kate. Will she ever win an Oscar?

In fairness to Mr. Skin, Kate Winslet has been very naked in very many movies. There's a novelty factor to quite a few people on his list.

Attractive actresses typically don't win Oscars until they ugly themselves up and actually act; disrobing and doing the horizontal hokeypokey doesn't usually qualify, since any woman with a camcorder can do as well, and sometimes much better.

Kate is zaftig. Mr. Skin, being a little boy, is frightened by zaftig.

Even at 46 years of age I have yet to grow out of my impressionable phase.

For this reason I merely skimmed the posts at Defamer and Mr. Skin fearing they might be a corrupting influence.

Still, I am reminded of a quote by Gloria Leonard: “The difference between pornography and erotica is lighting.”

Ann, how about a poll on whether the readers prefer women skinny or zaftig?

Ricpic, Kate hasn't been zaftig for about a decade. At least in the pictures I saw, she lost virtually all the weight after (not because of, obviously) she had a kid. Here she is in 2008. That's zaftig? That isn't zaftig. If Trooper York were awake, he'd feed a bitch.

Skinny, zaftig, or fat. Zaftig runs shapely to plump - think Winslet in Titanic, Christina Hendricks, and, these days, Rachael Ray. Then there are the threshold cases between zaftig and fat - think Sara Rue at some stages of her career. In any event, the point to make is that a poll shouldn't be confined to skinny and zaftig, any more than a poll about political orientation should be limited to "left" and "center."

Hmm...learning something new here today. Zaftig.

Love Kate Winslet.

What to see what's really hot? How about a YouTube video of Althouse, baring everything a la Mr Skin.

Interested?

Well, wait no longer. Turn down the ambient lighting. NSFW.

As any true boulevardier of consequence will attest, a man of the world truly appreciates a woman with luxurious curves. Lush breasts and ample hips to hold onto while doing the deed leave a man well grounded in the land of love. A skinny skank with sharp angles in place of ample curves and a pitifully undernourished frame are not for me. Give me a woman who enjoys her life. Who can sip from the cup and eat from the dish of life without thought of measuring each morsel like a miser counting his coins. To find such a woman is to find joy my friend. To find joy.

Kate Winslet is Keira Knightley after she drinks the magic potion and turns into a woman.

zdwyatt said...

First Keira Knightley has to wish on a star and be turned into a real boy.

Bob said...

Keira use to have curves but her diet lost them all. Kate has retained her curves. Lets hope she stays away from that diet. Trooper has it right on this - a real woman has some curves.

As a man I am a voyeur, and I enjoy looking a naked females, including famous females. However, I came to the conclusion years ago that nudity in films is a bad idea dramatically and is unfair to the (usually female) actors who bare themselves. In short, I think it's a practice that should be discontinued.

Notwithstanding all the claims to nudity and "frank" depictions of sex (which are almost never "frank," but instead are tarted up, prettied up, and bled dry of most of the real passion and also occasional awkwardness or disappointments of real sex) as signifiers of "adult" or "sophisicated" art, I believe once the clothes come off, the dramatic spell of the story is destroyed, as we gaze at the naked actress and think, "So that's what ____________ looks like naked!"

It's really far more dramatically effective to leave sex and nudity to the imagination.

Additionally, the actresses must forever after see their nude images perpetuated throughout the world via magazine reproductions and internet promulgation. I think for most this must be degrading, to be conscious of the many leering at them anonymously.

While actresses do have the right to decline to do nudity, I believe there's a covert (or even overt) pressure in Hollywood that, to be taken seriously or considered for big roles, they must be willing to do nudity. Of course, this applies to female actors, and rarely to male actors.

Jesus Robert, even when you are talking about naked babes you are a boring pussy.

Trooper, I hear what you're saying, but there will always be a place in my heart for a naked Mischa Barton.

I am glad I never saw Audrey Hepburn naked....I don't think I'd ever rent a mainstream movie for the skin content. They can't possibly compete with what's two clicks away on the internet. The exception to this is, of course, Penelope Cruz. She should have a nude scene in all her movies.
