How do giraffes fight?

Do they whip each other with their long necks?

Yes!

#3 on Wired's "Top 10 Amazing Animal Videos." #1 is something I've blogged before and is the first thing I'd have thought of if you asked me what's the most amazing animal video I've ever seeen.

I suppose the blown-up whale doesn't count, since a carcass isn't still an animal.

Looks like a good way to dislocate your neck.

Since this is an animal post, here's something about squirrels. In Games' magazine Games 100, their top party game for this year is Go Nuts!. From the magazine:

Each squirrel die has a squirrel on three sides, a nut on two, and a car on the last. Each turn, roll the five squirrel dice repeatedly and count the nuts rolled. Optionally stop and earn one point for each rolled nut. Rolling a car eliminates that die; if all dice are eliminated, you end scoreless. Special case: if you roll four cars, you regain them and continue scoring if you roll a nut with the last die. If you roll only squirrels, you lose your accumulated score and everyone goes nuts!

For mindless dice rolling games, I think I'll stick with Cosmic Wimpout.

I wonder if some animals think "damn, I wish I had arms."

I have seen the video, and have always found it interesting that they do not use their feet. It made me think that this was not really a serious fight. A kick from a giraffe can crack the skull of any other animal. They are perhaps one of the deadliest animals of the savanna.

Pro I loved that. Cats on the treadmill! The seem to be getting a kick out of it. Perhaps if I get one for my cats, they will be sleeping at 5am rather than bringing toys into my bed to play with me.

Is there any doubt that these are males? And that just out of camera range there is a female?

The one where the American guy who had the nature show (not Marlin Perkins) and the guy was sitting in a rattlesnake den while the snakes were having their courting ritual. I am terrified of snakes and the thought of sitting there while they were doing that amazed me. Was his name Grizzly Adams?
