"I think he would play the role that spouses have always played for presidents."

"He will not have a formal, official role, but just as presidents rely on wives, husbands, fathers, friends of long years, he will be my close confidante and adviser as I was with him."

Get into your cage, Bill Clinton!

"I'm going to expect that people in my administration will turn to him and rely on him, as we do with many people who have experience," she said."

They will have to turn to someone, as Hillary has no experience.

I absolutely do not believe that. Can she really say this with a straight face? I think that we can all agree, red state or blue, gay or straight, rich or poor, that there's no way he could ever even hope of holding himself back.

Just about the worst pronouncement Hillary could have made on the eve of the caucuses. Her “strength and experience” is her husband’s. If her husband will be relegated to the kitchen for barefoot-and-pregnant duty, then she presently has no strength, nor any experience. Furthermore, this pronouncement undermines her claim that she was the Extraordinary Insider Spouse. We know she hadn’t a security clearance. We know she never read the Presidential Daily Briefings. She never attended National Security Council meetings. If she plans to constrain Bill Clinton to the traditional confines of the First Lady – that is, the bailiwick to which she was confined as First Lady, it means Bill Clinton’s sage advice will be about as useful as a taxi driver’s insight on a long trip uptown. Moreover, it means Bill and Hillary were lying about their co-Presidency and/or Hillary Clinton is a sexist. The Co-Presidency is well and dandy when the unofficial President is a hausfrau, but when the unofficial President is actually qualified to be President, then he isn’t good enough. Lastly, there is a troubling inconsistency here that speaks ill of Hillary’s ethics. Sandy Berger – known to many as Sandy Burglar – has been informally advising the Clinton campaign, even after he was caught destroying classified documents and had to resign his membership to the bar. Yet, perhaps, Hillary has entrusted him with private information most in our democracy have no access to. Bill Clinton is a former President who, arguably, should be sought out for advice and counsel and who, as far as I know, still has a valid security clearance. It is remarkable that Hillary would rely on the advice of someone with the highest level of security clearance while simultaneously so limiting his access to classified materials that his advice would be of little use, yet she took no such precaution when relying on the advice of a felon whose security clearance has been revoked. Her disrespect for ethics, and for the status of the former President, should disqualify her from the office she seeks.

Various presidents had different ways that they shared their official lives with their first ladies. Although the sign on his desk said that “The Buck Stops Here”, the staff knew that Harry Truman packed up the Buck and brought it upstairs and discussed it with his wife. As did Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and both the Bushes. Of course in the Clinton administration, the Clintons moved “The Bucks Stops Here” sign to the Lincoln bedroom.

She has to say that for now.

Come next fall and the world's still a mess, people are going to say, "Hmm, might not be so bad to have that sheisty dog around the Oval Office again. He does have eight years job experience."

I don't see a problem. If she wants to keep him out of her hair all she has to do is hire a few hot interns.

The most shocking thing about that little piece were her last words: Billy is "the most popular person in the world." Nice to see neither of them suffers from a low sense of self-esteem ...

Excuse me? Isn't this disparaging and essentially pissing on and negating the one and only positive thing she has going for her?

Reagan was Trilby to Nancy's Svengali. At least the White House won't have another Court Astrologer any time soon.

There are still people who believe that myth about Reagan listening to astrologers?

Wonders never cease.

Rev

At one point Hill was channeling Eleanor (Roosevelt, that is not Mondale). Nevermind.

Hey, there are even some who believe the myth about Reagan dodging the draft and sitting out WWII in Hollywood.

Maybe she's trying to fend off the 22d Amendment argument.

I've noticed a tendency in this blog's comments to dismiss any troubling fact -- like Bush's walking away from National Guard duty -- as a myth.

But in this case the existence of White House astrologer Joan Quigley is well established. Refer to Chief of Staff Don Regan's memoirs, as well as her own book:

* Quigley, Joan. "What Does Joan Say?: My Seven Years as White House Astrologer to Nancy and Ronald Reagan". Carol Publishing Group. New York, NY; 1990.
* Regan, Donald. "For the Record: From Wall Street to Washington". Harcourt. New York; 1988.

Bill was the one "channeling" Eleanor Mondale.

I've noticed a tendency in this blog's comments to dismiss any non-combat military service as draft dodging.

Perhaps. But ineptly so. That argument is about dynasty, not about legalities.
