In...

The freckled inside of a pink flower

... here.

ADDED: FYI, this is poison. It's foxglove. I should have heard about it on Fox News, but I found out in the comments.

AND: The spots look like insects eagerly crawling in, but don't be fooled. The enlargement shows some dangerous-looking hairs.

Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame are as bad as Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, and should be treated as such.

Ann, you need to grow your hair.

Bees, yes. Children, no.

Powerful medicine; deadly poison.

today hints at the possibility of a sad future for this blog. look at the trivial quirks and hang-ups of edwards, obama, even gore - haircuts, yogic flying, hybrid hallucinogens. compared to the clintons, who would make tennessee williams blush, there's almost nothing there! to echo the earlier comparisons to maureen dowd, dowd was at her best in the clinton years and was reduced to a pretty pathetic carrie bradshaw imitation under bush. prof althouse is unquestionably at her best with the clintons, as the cunniringus craziness demonstrated; if hillary loses, will there be anything to blog about but flowers? (not that i don't love the flower pics, i'm just saying!)

Speaking of hair.... that flower reminds me of Farrah Fawcett hair.

So, yeah, it's foxglove. This should be on Fox News.

Yes, Fox News transmitted via digitalis cable.

This, in today's Times, about Hillary on the trail in Iowa:

Mrs. Clinton has also cracked up crowds by referring to Mr. Clinton’s taste for onion rings.

Althouse - ahead of the curve once again . . .

I will add your comment to the by now long list I've collected by now of people on the right proposing that the best way to deal with Americans who they don't like is to kill them (though at least you suggest doing it pseudo-lawfully, using the apparatus of the state.) I wonder why it is mostly the right that you hear that kind of stuff from (see a couple of comments on the Oliver Stone thread, for example.)

It's a little like Ann Coulter's recent suggestion that John Edwards should be shot. You know, I can't stand Scooter Libby, Dick Cheney or the rest of that crew, but I don't believe that murdering any of them would either be the right way to handle anything, or for that matter would solve anything.

Please explain the psychology behind this kind of thinking, because I don't understand it.

Brent said...

Eli -

I am on the right/center and I have no desire to have anyone on the left killed - and I am certain that I represent a majority of those on the right.

While I have not yet checked the "Oliver Stone" thread, I have seen Oliver Stone, in an interview several years ago, discuss the "valueless" lives of those who buy into the "Western Christian claptrap". Now that, Eli, is the kind of attitude that inspires a kind of tiered look at who is more valuable - and therefore, more expendable.

I don't know of anyone - and neither do you, Eli - in the main stream* of American conservatism that advocates anything close to that despicable Stone attitude.

* Coulter - who was fired from the right wing National Review for being over the top - is not a main stream conservative. She's a thoughtless political performer, in the vein of Janeane Garofalo or Randi Rhodes. You won't be seeing her at the campaign rallies of any conservative I know.

Nice one!

Eli Blake - I will add your comment to the by now long list I've collected by now of people on the right proposing that the best way to deal with Americans who they don't like is to kill them.

Kind of depends on what the Americans are doing.

Those attempting to destroy what America is to create a new, non-Western, non-Judeo Christian country are dangerous. Best if they can be peacefully removed from power and influence, but if we enter into a time of menace where some Americans side with our enemies, then force may be necessary to dislodge them.

You're asking Maxine to explain something? Good luck with that.

(P.S.: Maxine's right-wing?)

amba said...

Many on the left already think of it as "Rabid Fox News."

blake said...

Eli,

I suspect you mostly hear threats from the right because that's where you want to hear them from. I doubt you are keeping a similar list of threats made by the left, and you don't get help from the media constantly repeating slurs of "the good guys".(Here's a small sampler of leftist hate speech at Patterico. You should remember at least some of these.)

Your Ann Coulter comment is particularly a propos--and unfortunately worthy of hdhouse, who made the same incorrect comment earlier--since she was talking about the very subject when she didn't threaten or suggest that John Edwards should be shot. Seriously, doesn't she say enough outrageous stuff that the left has to make stuff up?

She says around the same time she used "the F-word" in her speech referencing Edwards, Bill Maher said that he wished Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack, and that didn't seem to bug anyone, so she'd say that next time. The point she's making is very clear, hypothetical, and Edwards is only incidental to it.

I think it's less clear that Bill Maher said that he wished Cheney were killed in a terrorist attack. I don't believe he was advocating assassinating the VP, but he states outright that Cheney's death would save lives.

So on the one hand, you have someone saying something clear but banal (calling someone effeminate) using provocative language, and on the other you have someone dancing around death wishes, and the former gets all the negative attention.

This is why politics is so boring. If (or rather when) sports were played like politics, you'd have to have to referees at every position, and 99% of the game would be taken up with arguments over what constitutes fair play.

And, rather dumbly, each side hopes to win using tactics that alienate those who might be (but aren't yet) totally sympathetic.

blake said...

Point being, you can find plenty of examples of this "psychology" on the left if you really want to understand it.

Here's an interesting experiment: Look for blogs saying that Ann Coulter doesn't speak for them when she made her "faggot" remark. Now look for blogs that say Kos doesn't speak for them when he made his famous "screw them" remark.

I've mislaid my handy Althouse Commenter Scorecard, so I'm not sure what Maxine has said that places her "on the right". Personally, she always struck me as more "on Pluto".

Go to the very link you posted. She admits it there. Go to dozens of other links who have her quoted verbatim...

hdhouse, in light of the flower photo, I'd give serious thought to deadheading. Only then is reflowering likely.
