"I knew he loved Elvis.I didn't realize how much he loved Elvis."

Said President Bush, who thought up the idea of taking Junishiro Koizumi to Graceland:
Mr. Koizumi, whose penchant for belting out Elvis on a karaoke machine is well known, couldn't resist trying out his moves on Mr. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush as the three of them made their way through the manse, escorted by none other than Priscilla Presley, Elvis's former wife, and Lisa Marie, his daughter.

"Looove mee tenderrrrr," the prime minister crooned, as Mr. Bush, not one for letting loose in public, cracked up. When Lisa Marie Presley showed the prime minister her father's trademark sunglasses, he promptly donned them and thrust his hips and arms forward, an earnest imitation of a classic Elvis stage move.

The leaders of the world's two largest economies, relaxed and cuttin' up at Graceland. Nice to see; hope it's portentious.

So 62 years from now, the U.S. President will do what? where? with the leader of al Qaeda?

Let's hope that 62 years from now, the American president will meet with the leaders of several Arab nations and that many of those leaders will be females.

I bet you they'll still be dancing to Elvis then. :)

Let's hope future national leaders aren't secret fans of GWAR.

Last verse of Paul Simon's Graceland:

In Graceland, in Graceland
I'm going to Graceland
For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see
Graceland
And I may be obliged to defend
Every love, every ending
Or maybe there's no obligations now
Maybe I've a reason to believe
We all will be received
In Graceland

--maybe that's it; "grace" land.

Maybe a future Arabic leader will admit to a long-repressed love of The Clash, so that "Rock The Casbah" will someday be heard throughout the minarets...

Meanwhile W will finally fess up that The War on Terror translates in his mind to the great Kurosawa film "The G7 Samurai"...known in America as "The Magnificent G7"... with George in the Toshiro Mifune/Yul Brenner role...

the footage of this visit is delightful

Toshiro Mifune's role in The Magnificent Seven was played by Horst Buchholz (Chico). Yul Brenner played Takashi Shimura's role.

Buddy - on your portents, 62 years from now:

My fervent hope is that one day an American president will tour the prosperous nation of Iraq, especially the city of Ur and others places of Gilgamesh, led by the sons and daughters of the Fadhils and of Alaa the messopotamian. Then on to a barbeque and honeyed dates--as he always promised--with the descendants of Sam from Hammurabi. Zeyad, at 95, of course will be in NYC writing another book, but he will come home, maybe for the last time, for the tour.

Do you think that Laura was embarassed by wearing a white pantsuit just like Priscilla?

They were only a few seams and sequins away from a white jumpsuit.
